I used to make my son wear his Equestrian helmet (which is rated for a harder impact) when riding his bike. Heck I should have made him wear it all of the time and you would have too if you had watched him "play"!!)

One day I will never forget he was riding his bike up and down our sidewalk. We have a 2 foot thick 3 foot tall stone wall in front of our house between the sidewalk and our yard. Our driveway comes out of this wall and there is a short steep hill up the drive to the house.

GEEK son was zooming down the driveway and had turned in (at speed) to the driveway and up that hill a couple of times earlier. It didn't look like a wise idea to me, so I had made him quit. When his dad got home GS was zooming along and yelling, "Dad Watch!!" He was so busy yelling he basically rode the bike (at speed) into the drive hit a bump and flew head first into a stone wall! Uninjured. We did have to buy a new helmet however. BOYS! May they all live through childhood and may we all live through them.
Ouch! Sounds like DH's student in the hovercraft races a few weeks ago. This girl finished her race and was headed in to the boat ramp. Her mom was video taping her on the dock. She came in way too fast and took one hand off the steering to wave "Hi Mom" and crashed into the dock. She rolled off the craft and hit the back of her head on the dock. She was wearing a helmet, which she hadn't buckled. Still, the helmet took the impact, popped off, and she went under. She was fine in the end but what a scene!

Well, after our first Family Yoga class with our friend Carole, DS and I headed home. It started to rain harder and harder. He went in the basement to dig around in old toy bins and I put away laundry and cleaned here and there, paid bills, etc. DH called to let me know he's been called by the school where he applied and has an interview on Friday morning. That will give us a little time to find him something to wear that comes from this century. I don't think he's bought a suit or jacket since 1990! The rain has now stopped and it is getting humid out again.
And that's about as exciting as it gets on your average summer day around here. Without any crisis that is. And I can do without that!

A dull day is better than a crisis day any time!

Good luck to your hubby on the job interview, I am sure you will come up with something for him to wear. Has he lost weight along with you? My Hubby had to buy some new pants because he had lost weight...now those are too big too.

I am writing a gluten relate question on my journal, I'd like you thoughts when you have the time.

I'll pop over there next!
DH is one of those annoying men who hasn't gained an ounce since I've known him (22 years) His dad is the same at 91 years old. grrrr
So, while he could wear the one suit he owns he'd be laughed out of the interview room! We'll be looking for something decent tomorrow. Even if he lands the job he still won't wear the suit to work.....

Yes, DS finally convinced me to get my bike out of the garage. We cleaned it up, got some air into the tires, taped the rip on the seat (grrrrr) and I took it for a spin down the road. All 1/4 mile of it. Thank goodness our road slopes downhill on the return!
He convinced DH to hook up the bike rack to my car so we can take our bikes to the bike trail in town (we live on top of a windy steep hill and it is NOT safe to ride on). Thank goodness it is going to rain tomorrow....... :hide

So far I'm safe. DH took the bike rack back off my car and didn't put it back on in last night's crazy weather, so I can't take DS to the bike path to ride. It's really too bad; it's a nice day with a dry breeze blowing. Too bad, really....
So the chicken thief story is not nearly as exciting as it sounds. We'd had chickens for a few years, 2 or 3 at a time. Life was relatively sane then now that I think about it. Our nextdoor neighbors were a family with 3 kids, 2 older girls and their younger brother. T. was a good kid most of the time. He'd had animals over the years, a couple of sheep for a while, a pig, and apparently at one point they'd had a cow. When he was about 14 he decided to order chicks. He got 25 from a hatchery, 24 pullets and a cockeral. Half were barred rocks, have were Red Sex links. The neighborhood hate that rooster once it started crowing. And T. hated it most of all. One day we were in the yard and Mr. Rooster crowed and crowed and crowed. Then "bang" and no more crowing. We're guessing T. shot it. We didn't go over to ask.....
T. seemed to lose interest in the chickens. Now, bear in mind we're not close with this family. They had around 30 cats at the time, most of whom pooped in my gardens. There was trash all over their yard, mostly on the side nearest us. We noticed after a while that T. was not locking up the little lean-to coop he'd built. Eventually there seemed to only be 2 of his hens left. We think he may have been sending them to freezer camp because we didn't notice any more pretadors around than usual. We did worry though. Those two hens got lonely in his backyard and started finding ways under or over our fence into our yard to hang out with our girls. They were very friendly and we'd catch them and sent them home for a while. Then we'd just let them hang out for the day and send them home at night. After one day of doing that I felt like I was sending them to their doom. T. didn't seem to be looking for them. He may very well have realized where they were, or thought they'd been killed by something. Anyway, one day we were out 'til after dark and couldn't find them to send them home. They had roosted in the rhododendron outside our bedroom window. We heard them cooing in the night. They did that for a few nights. Then one night they followed our girls into their coop. So we locked the door. And became chicken thieves. T. is now an adult, living in the same house with his wife and 3 daughters. DS climbs the fence to play with the girls sometimes and talks to T. all the time. We have over-the-fence neighbor conversations. Chickens have never come up..... I have no idea to this day if he knows we stole his last 2 chickens. Lucy didn't live more than a year but we had Ethel, who was just called Rocky like our first barred rock, for years. Right before I joined BYC she was our only chicken. She was sooooo lonely. She'd come to the sliding glass door and knock with her beak for someone to go out and hang out with her. I got two more hens from a lady whose son I was tutoring. I still have one of those chickens. She's got to be 8 or 9 by now. I joined BYC looking for people in our area to order chicks with. And that's what started it all.

I'd call that an Unauthorized Chicken Rescue!
LOL, it almost sounds legal that way....

As far as the eggs the stolen chickens laid, I figure it was fair compensation for all the eggs our Wendy laid under the large storage trailer when she went broody. :hide
