Yes, I was talking about my kombucha. Forgot I have a separate thread on that! Forgot to take pictures though... Had some at lunch time. mmmmmm! Only one person asked what it was and got a horrified look on their face when I probably shared a little too much information. Some people just aren't ready.
I remember an April snowstorm in the 80s when I was at college in New Haven. Shut down the state! Well, I kinda remember it. It involved a lot of peppermint schnapps..... :hide

A former coworker just posted on Facebook that she wants to get some runner ducks to practice herding with her dogs. The three ducks I "don't care" for are supposedly half runner. I'm thinking of offering them to her. But then I'd end up with two males and two females again. The drakes fought which is why I got the three runner cross females..... what to do, what to do?

It came to Colorado. There is a huge wall of clouds heading right for me. At least I was able to get the duck feed purchased and in their feed bins before the sleet hit.

Phew! You did remind me we should buy more hay this weekend... We can only store it 10 bales at a time here. Makes me nervous. Our first winter with goats. I hope I don't starve them!!! :barnie

You'll be able to get hay, you will just pay dearly for it come spring. Make sure you get more well before you run out so that you can mix your last bale with the next batch. Most critters don't like to have their hay changed suddenly (unless it goes from really crappy to really good!) If you get into a fix, you can usually find someone with animals to sell you one bale to get you by.

A lot of the bigger horse farms get their hay by the tractor-trailer load, and by spring it is often coming from NY or NH. The big barns usually don't have enough space to store all their hay for the winter, but they also charge$500-1000 per month board per horse, so the price of each bale is not a huge concern, as each boarder absorbs the cost. I got a couple of bales this way last spring when I got desperate before the pasture started sprouting. I think I paid $8 a bale. :/

I'm not thrilled about paying dearly for it but not as much as I am about being able to get it. I do have friends who have more storage than I do. I have a friend out in NY who sells hay. I'll drive out there if I have to!

Day off tomorrow in observance of Veterans' Day. I managed to schedule a naturopath appt for myself at almost the same time DS has a dentist appt. DH will have to do that one. After that it's just Friday, which is a pretty easy day. The weekend is a full day of Cub Scout leader training for me on Saturday, church on Sunday followed by a Cub Scout hike/geocaching venture with the whole Pack.
Hmmmm, I think maybe I'd better spend some time tomorrow getting ready for next week! Why is November such an insane month?

Hey Henrietta, I have one of these for my hay. http://www.harborfreight.com/portable-garage-42211.html I can store several bales, don't recall now how many I can get. Right now, I have about 6 bales of hay, as well as 18 bales of straw, metal cans w/goat, rabbit and chicken feed in it, a table I trash picked, and a saddle, and still have plenty of room.

I'll admit that last winter was tough on the tarp, and it did end up ripping this spring, but rather than get the replacement, I just got a 20 x 20 tarp. It was much cheaper, and seems to be doing just as good.
