Yup. After a few weeks of an egg or 2 a day I broke down and bought eggs. $3.50 a dozen for free range eggs at the co-op. Beautiful dark brown and green ones. Reminds me of the eggs I used to get from my 17 hens. My 17 non-laying hens. I am going to frame and hang a picture of Mrs. Tweedy from Chicken Run in their coop to "encourage" them to get with the program. Maybe take a clipboard with me when I go out each morning. Or should I make them a nice pot of oatmeal now that the mornings are getting chilly and try bribing them that way? :barnie

I'll send ya some good vibes Hen. Last 2 days I have gotten 8 eggs out of 14 hens. I think they saw me sharpening the knives. I also changed their feed to one with more protein.

2 eggs from 5 duck hens. Not too bad, but I wonder if my June hatchers are ever going to start. Teenagers are so lazy these days!!!

I feel your pain! Yesterday I got 10 eggs from 38 hens, day before yesterday I got 14. Last week I was getting around 2 dozen a day consistently. I'm wondering if I don't have a thief.

This time of year your girls might not be getting enough light to lay. They need 14 hours of good daylight to lay an egg. You can supplement with artificial light, but I give my crew a little time off in the winter. My quail stopped laying a couple weeks ago. I will run a light out to their pen after Thanksgiving so I have quail eggs for Christmas party trays.

I'm so cranky! No other way to describe. Stupid little things. Messy supervisor. Rude students. Cub Scout issues. I suppose I shouldn't let it get to me. But I am. We collected non-perishable food through Scouting for Food over the last few weeks. It was supposed to go to the local soup kitchen. We collected it all at tonight's meeting. That's when I found out no one ever called the soup kitchen about dropping it off until today. They told the pack leader that unless we could drop it off during the day before 3:00 they couldn't take it. So without checking with anyone else he took it to his mother's church's food pantry several towns north of here. Now, I know they can use it and will. Our town is much worse off though, and we collected this food telling people it would be brought to the local soup kitchen. I'm feeling like we've been a little deceitful. There are lots of other food collections going on. I'm just having a hard time letting it go.
Busy week. Haircuts and dentist appointments and Scout leader meetings. It's something all week long! I think Thursday is my only night off all week.
DS is currently arguing that he can handle seeing the new Harry Potter movie when it comes out this weekend. I don't think so! He's only 8. Way too intense for him. He's furious with us. Oh well.
We went on hike with the Scouts yesterday. We ended up hiking somewhere between 4.5 and 5 miles. A little too long for the younger guys. Not the first time we've had our leader plan something beyond what the kids could handle. I'm feeling it in my feet and left ankle. About 3/4 of the way around the loop we hit a rocky spot. My ankles aren't up to the twisting and turning of climbing over rocks anymore. Ow! And Mondays I do a lot of walking at work. Figures.
Grumpy, I tell ya, just plain grumpy.
Bed time.
