I wonder if you could set up tie stations with hay for the two youngsters. A short length of chain so they don't get twisted and hang themselves...and always be there when they are tied. If they get any grain, they can get their grain when they are tied, too. Secure the most dominant first, down to the least dominant. Turn them loose in reverse order.

You could use haybags and put them away after so you don't have to fill them up all the time.

I'd love a pic of the fold down milking stand! A Murphy milking stand!
That's exactly what we need to do!! Perfect. Thanks Free. I think I knew that at some point but it really wasn't an issue in the summer and fall. We'll have that set up before the weekend is out.

Have they ever been tied? If not, you will need to train them. If they lead reasonably well, they should be ok. Have your dh there to prevent them from lunging back and injuring their necks. Just stand behind them and if they pull back, just block them with your knees and push them forward and praise and comfort them when they stand nicely. Herd animals can panic when restrained so they need to be trained that it is safe. Food helps! Cook lots of carrots and broccoli between now and then so you'll have extra goodies!

I have a buck rag for you but can't get to the post office. DH has a training all day and I won't have access to a vehicle. Maybe tomorrow....I owe some scobies and kefir grains so I hope to get them out on Saturday if the post office is open when I have the car in the early afternoon. If not, then Monday. I hate to keep putting it off with the holiday postal rush. And Dorian is probably done here, I'll know in two weeks if Peach and Plum come back into heat.

If you loop a bicycle inner tube around the post and then tie to the tube, it will flex and prevent any injury to the animal learning to tie.

Daisy walks quite well on a lead, Thomas is another story. But they are both chow hounds. We'll start training tomorrow. Can't tell if the storm is going to hit us Sunday or not. Everyone has a different opinion!

Wow!!! :ep That is the coolest little building ever. That's your barn?

Was it a kit? I mean the brackets? Did you dh design it? Were the 4 x 8 sheets of plywood just cut on the diagonal?

How cool!!!
