Thanks Tanks and KJM.
Not a bad dinner. DS didn't want chicken, which is really the only thing on the kids' menu. So I talked to the waitress and asked about the burgers. She went to talk to the cook and they assured me there's not breading in the burgers. So DS ordered a plain burger, no bun. They forgot that part and put it on a bun anyway, but he's not so sensitive that he couldn't just take it off. We bring our own ketchup so it's corn syrup free. The waitress got quite an education this evening! Instead of fries which are usually coated with something, sometimes dextrose (which can be corn based), to help them brown, he orders plain steamed broccoli, no butter. That they always get right. A pinch of salt and DS is good to go! He loves broccoli. I got the petit sirloin, medium rare, and it was really good! Best steak I've ever had there.
We have RT all over the place up here. Applebee's (which I loathe), TGIF, Chilis. Those are the most popular chains around here I think.
Mom had a good time. She got a Kindle from her brother for Christmas so both he and I got her Amazon gift cards to add books to it.
Looks like we've got more ick on the way tomorrow, this the more typical snow/rain/sleet mess with funky timing so we have no way to predict if we'll have a snow day, a late opening, an early closing or a full day. It's mid terms at the HS so they'll hesitate to call it too soon. But if there's ice, the bus company will force the issue. Stay tuned. I got so much cleaning done today that I would love another day to continue, especially one without an extra 8 year old under foot. Not that this guy is a problem at all. He is welcome here any time! He is one of my Cub Scouts. At camp last summer he tried to so hard to befriend a boy from another Pack who I was told was undiagnosed Aspergers/Austistic. This boy would melt down later in the day and usually one of the adults from his group was close by. One particular afternoon he was having a hard time walking back to camp from the lake. It was hot and a long walk. A. was trying to encourage him along but I could see C was about to snap. He yanked his tackle box away from A. and A. still didn't give up. He was only being kind. But C. looked like he was about to hit A. so I did the first thing that came to mind. I very sternly told A to back away from C. He did immediately but looked stunned that I had snapped at him like that. I had to take him aside and explain that I needed him to move away quickly because I was protecting him, not angry with him. He completely understood; I didn't have to share anything about the other boy that I had no business sharing and all was good again. That night on the way home DS said to me, "Mom, does C have Autism?" Funny how if they're in class with someone who does they really pick up on it, even if the child is quite different than the one they know from school. We have an adult man who sometimes comes to our church and DS figured out from some of his behaviors that he is Autistic. There were adults who frightened of him because of his outbursts. DS just accepts that that's who this guy is and that's that. Everyone is different. Well, if he got nothing else out of his 2 years in public school he got that much.
Anyway, A was a perfect guest and the two of them had a ball. DS almost fell asleep at dinner he was so tired. They didn't keep coming in because it was too hot here! I had to yank them in for hot cocoa because it was in the mid 20s and they'd been out a good long time. Gave them cocoa and threw snow clothes in the drier. A. didn't know the inserts in his boots came out. I tossed those in too so he went home with WARM boot liners. I think he was pretty impressed with the fact I knew to do that!
Off to make lunches just in case we do have a normal day. Because if I don't we guaranteed to have a normal day and I won't be ready!

That's great!!! Autism just means we think differently LOL. Glad she can pick up on it AND shrug it off at the same time.

I love having kids around who are just great to be around. My older niece is that way. I'm trying really hard to be okay around the younger who is more like MY sister. Drama queen and just... I dunno. She's a good kid but she needs more? And I'm not good at knowing what to give. I get socially worn out when she's just getting started LOL.

It's nice when restaurants work with you :D

I wish this particular RT's was more consistent about it but I'm happy for tonight!
Yeah, the only drama today came from Mom, the birthday girl and it was minor.
A is the youngest of 3, and of course my DS is an only. They are a good mix. Both have goofy senses of humor. And how can you not love an 8 year old who meets your rabbit and asks if she's anything like the rabbit in The Holy Grail???

I bet I would!
We are home today. We got several inches of snow and then sleet. The roads were really bad but it's changing to rain and now that the plows and sanding trucks have gone through we've had a few people drive down the street.
We are decluttering and DS is working on his book report that is due Friday. He had to read a biography for it and chose one on the Beatles. He has to write a summary and make a mobile. He's having a lot of fun and DH is pulling out old records and books to give him ideas. Sometimes it's cool to have a 52 year old dad who's a bit of a pack rat!
We are wishing that we had known it was going to be a snow day and we would have kept A. over night but there wasn't anyway to know. Another time.
Should I confess I'm still in my jammies? I put overalls on over them to do the barn chores and spend time with the barn animals. But I still haven't showered or changed. :hide
I've knit another 2 inches on my vest. I've got the back more than half done. :weee
The house is quite a bit cleaner than it was last week when I was whiney. It will be even better when today is over! :woot

After yesterday's snow/ice/rain storm they have given us a 90 minute delay this morning to allow the roads to warm up a bit for our commute. The call came in while I was in the shower so I'm up and awake. Normally I would have sneaked another 20 minutes of sleep. Oh well, I'll knit or read instead and be happy about it.
It will mess up the mid-term exam schedule at the HS. They were supposed to have an early release all week for exams but you can't really do an early release when you have a delay and still have it count as a full day. The principal sent out an email say school would be from 9-12 and they would only hold 1 exam. All other exams are pushed back by 1, which gets weird since we do 2 a day. I'll be thoroughly confused tomorrow but they'll put out a new schedule. I usually only get to see my Special Ed kids during exams. The ones who can not possibly take an exam. That means only one of my Autistic students and one non-verbal, non-ambulatory boy. And I'll have to see them in their noisy classroom since I'm not allowed to take them out in the halls because they're too noisy and disrupt exams. So in a nut shell, no way to plan for tomorrow. No real way to plan for today either. We had a consultant coming to observe and meet with us about one of our kindergarteners. But with the delay I have no idea if that is still going to happen. Isn't winter fun?
More snow coming Friday, possibly 6-12", hitting us in the morning, meaning another likely cancellation. My paycheck is going to suck this time around!!

I'll bet you're as tired of winter as I am! I hadn't recovered yet from last winter. :hugs

You guys are having quite a winter! It just started icing here - but the buses are already out to pick up kids. Buses go out by 6:15 here.

NOT Southern, Ca. :)
I noticed you were up early. It sounds like the weather really messes with your schedules.
We had Mon of for the holiday and this Fri off for something. Today is early day. Which means pretty much nothing is going on at school.

I think the weather has everyone antsy.

hang in there.

Yeah, it can but I can NOT complain too much when DH and I both for schools and all end up being able to stay home when the weather stinks. He is a teacher so on salary. I however am hourly and my paycheck reflects it. I make up for it with extra days at the end of the year though. It evens out.
More snow early Friday am. Looking like yet another snow day...
I honestly love winter for the most part. The snow is pretty... all that. I even try to do my part shoveling out till my back screams at me to stop. But I hate hate hate the 2+ feet we had that is now soaked with rain. Grainy, heavy and about 2 feet deep. Not fun. It makes the air feel even colder. Old, nasty, dirty snow. When we're stuck with that I have no trouble wishing for Spring!
