Thanks Tanks and KJM.
Not a bad dinner. DS didn't want chicken, which is really the only thing on the kids' menu. So I talked to the waitress and asked about the burgers. She went to talk to the cook and they assured me there's not breading in the burgers. So DS ordered a plain burger, no bun. They forgot that part and put it on a bun anyway, but he's not so sensitive that he couldn't just take it off. We bring our own ketchup so it's corn syrup free. The waitress got quite an education this evening! Instead of fries which are usually coated with something, sometimes dextrose (which can be corn based), to help them brown, he orders plain steamed broccoli, no butter. That they always get right. A pinch of salt and DS is good to go! He loves broccoli. I got the petit sirloin, medium rare, and it was really good! Best steak I've ever had there.
We have RT all over the place up here. Applebee's (which I loathe), TGIF, Chilis. Those are the most popular chains around here I think.
Mom had a good time. She got a Kindle from her brother for Christmas so both he and I got her Amazon gift cards to add books to it.
Looks like we've got more ick on the way tomorrow, this the more typical snow/rain/sleet mess with funky timing so we have no way to predict if we'll have a snow day, a late opening, an early closing or a full day. It's mid terms at the HS so they'll hesitate to call it too soon. But if there's ice, the bus company will force the issue. Stay tuned. I got so much cleaning done today that I would love another day to continue, especially one without an extra 8 year old under foot. Not that this guy is a problem at all. He is welcome here any time! He is one of my Cub Scouts. At camp last summer he tried to so hard to befriend a boy from another Pack who I was told was undiagnosed Aspergers/Austistic. This boy would melt down later in the day and usually one of the adults from his group was close by. One particular afternoon he was having a hard time walking back to camp from the lake. It was hot and a long walk. A. was trying to encourage him along but I could see C was about to snap. He yanked his tackle box away from A. and A. still didn't give up. He was only being kind. But C. looked like he was about to hit A. so I did the first thing that came to mind. I very sternly told A to back away from C. He did immediately but looked stunned that I had snapped at him like that. I had to take him aside and explain that I needed him to move away quickly because I was protecting him, not angry with him. He completely understood; I didn't have to share anything about the other boy that I had no business sharing and all was good again. That night on the way home DS said to me, "Mom, does C have Autism?" Funny how if they're in class with someone who does they really pick up on it, even if the child is quite different than the one they know from school. We have an adult man who sometimes comes to our church and DS figured out from some of his behaviors that he is Autistic. There were adults who frightened of him because of his outbursts. DS just accepts that that's who this guy is and that's that. Everyone is different. Well, if he got nothing else out of his 2 years in public school he got that much.
Anyway, A was a perfect guest and the two of them had a ball. DS almost fell asleep at dinner he was so tired. They didn't keep coming in because it was too hot here! I had to yank them in for hot cocoa because it was in the mid 20s and they'd been out a good long time. Gave them cocoa and threw snow clothes in the drier. A. didn't know the inserts in his boots came out. I tossed those in too so he went home with WARM boot liners. I think he was pretty impressed with the fact I knew to do that!
Off to make lunches just in case we do have a normal day. Because if I don't we guaranteed to have a normal day and I won't be ready!
