Loaded question!! I'm sitting here while DS tries to finish his book report that is due tomorrow. It's about a page and a half of 3rd grade cursive. He writes one sentence about every 20 minutes. It's going to be a long night. And I KNOW we're not going to have school tomorrow. But I can't back down and let him not finish it. They had 2 weeks to do it. He kept "forgetting" to bring the book home. He also had to do a mobile with lots of pictures and things. He finished that last night.
I'm exhausted! He is whining. It's a nightmare.

He's nearly in tears and not even half way done. Sigh. It's going to be a long night. At least it looks like he'll be able to sleep in! (Me too)

Not only mean, I'll go so far as to say pointless. :rant

EVERYTHING in the written world is in PRINT... books, TV, newspapers. Cursive is an outdated idea in my opinion. The only thing it is used for these days is a formal signature and possibly writing a check, but even checks are outdated!

Another old teaching idea from the past. Why not teach cursive in high school when people can actually control their pen? Use it as part of developing a signature.

Spend that extra time learning to spell or some extra math. :woot

'The whole point of cursive it that it's supposed to be a quicker way to write so you can take down notes, etc quicker. I use to know short hand, which was even quicker. I've tried for years to find a book so I can "relearn" it, but haven't had much luck. Oh well, I don't have the time right now any way.

Oh, and did you ever see those cell phone commercials where Dad is inside drinking a hot drink while the kids are hard at work outside w/the snow shovels? Maybe that's what you need to try. :p
