Here is our forcast:
"Rest of Tonight
Snow. Snow may be heavy at times early in the evening. New snow accumulation of 4 to 5 inches. Storm total snow accumulation of 8 to 10 inches. Lows around 13. Northeast winds around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent."

Yup. They already called school for tomorrow.

Right now the snow plows are going down the street, but honestly it does not seem to make a bit of difference.

Son is working tonight. Does not get off until midnight. I hope and pray he gets home safe, but as he said. "That late there are no stupid people to avoid on the roads."

They're telling us 2-4 inches with the heaviest falling during the morning commute. They haven't been calling snow days until the last minute this year, except for last weeks BIG snow. The last time I looked we were only at a 70% chance of precipitation but to hear them talk on the forecast, it's a sure thing.
The scary thing is the cold temps over the weekend. Cold for us anyway. I know some of you go through much colder. We won't get out of the teens during the day and the nights are going to be below 0. That I can do without.

Hubby took my 4x4 to work today. He said the roads were so bad that it would have been higher that the bottom of his car in places. :(

Last night when they were pushing it looked like they were accomplishing nothing. Plus money is a BIG issue. They just don't have the trucks out pushing that they used to. The trucks they do have spend their time trying to keep the highways (and it the big city there are a number of those spidering everywhere) clear. The main roads (how hubby gets to work) are cleared next, then the snow routes (in front of my house) and last residential side streets and some of them are still buried from the first snow this year!

Usually they spread salt (or a liquid beet pulp that works much the same way) and sand. When it is this cold however the snow just does not melt away.
I will not be surprised if we miss school tomorrow as well.

So .. I am going to render a pack of lard that I found in the freezer today. If they call your school do you have any plans?

BTW
Son got home safe and sound last night. :D

Well, that's good news!
I will be cooking for the freezer if we have another snow day. Mostly lunch stuff for DS like meatballs, chicken soup, etc. He's not a big fan of any of the breads he can eat (no rice makes for limited choices in GF breads!) I also want to sort through some books to see what I can send off to the Library book sale. Then probably some Wii games with DS. He has a big book report and project due to tomorrow. He has to finish the written summary tonight. He finished his mobile last nigh. He's earned some Wii time! Of course there will also be playing in the snow. There aren't any other kids his age in the immediate neighborhood so he's on his own when the roads are bad. I don't mind taking a few turns sledding. The snow is supposed to stop by noon so we might even be able to get out to a big hill with lots of kids in the afternoon.

Funny .. I can't seem to get my son to play in the snow anymore.

I keep handing him the shovel and he keeps giving it back! :p

Right now the sun is out AND it is snowing great big flakes. Looks like diamonds floating down from the sky!

Hey there!!

Ya know henrietta - if it snows like they say but the roads are good you're welcome to come to our hill in the later afternoon - no kids around your son's age (mine's only 5) but still an option!

Of course, I will still try making the trek into my work tomorrow :hit
I've taken off a lot of days in the past few months (sister got married, tons of family home for the holidays, snow days, etc) so my PTO bank at work has taken a hard hit! I'd rather save some of this up for warm weather "vacations"

Hopefully it won't be as bad as predicted, but they keep upping the snow fall totals.
Your hill sounds great. If it stops snowing and the roads aren't awful in the afternoon we may take you up on it!

Yeah, I bet he'd change his mind if you handed him a sled! Mine will pick up the shovel and use it spontaneously sometimes. Not often. But it happens.
