A friend told me when her cable internet service does that she just unplugs her router, plugs it back in, and she's good. It happened this afternoon and son of a gun, it worked!
Had a really awesome day at work. One student at the elementary school was absent but the ones I saw were sweet, cooperative and some even showed great gains in their goals suddenly! I see two kindergarteners for speech sound therapy on Friday mornings. One I've been seeing all year, the other started after Christmas break. T, who's been coming all along is a very nice kid, always tries hard, but never seemed to enjoy coming. Then I added D to his time and we have a blast! Having another kid his age just brought out the fun in him. And D is just the cutest, silliest little guy. AFter I see them I head to the HS. Usually I dread Fridays because of one particular boy. He's a 9th grader, somewhat oppositional, and has been most unpleasant the past few times I've seen him. He is a foster child and has a state advocate who comes and tells the school that all his behavior problems stem from his language delay and then goes on to say it's our fault (the speech/language department) for not doing our job) Sigh, it's hard to increase someone's general vocabulary and understanding of academic vocabulary when they won't take the earbuds out of their ears, or pick fights with kids in the hallway on the way to their session. Last week he took his time leaving the class I got him from and wandered away and never even showed up. I went to his Special Ed. case manager, who called home. Today he was far from perfect but I stated my expectaions when we got to the room and he met them. We were even able to joke around and I got a number of smiles out him. He didn't tease, badger, bait or even irritate the other boy I see in during this time.
Then it was time for my not quite 21 year old Autistic student. I always like working with him and I've learned so much from it. Today I could sense he wasn't himself. Now, understanding him on a good day is hard enough, both his speech and his personality. But today, maybe because his wisdom teeth were bothering him (they're coming out next week) he spoke more slowly and clearly and took his time answering questions. Even though some of his responses were still out in left field, today I was able to follow his logic better than usual. And that was how I ended my work day!
We went a fed a friend's cat. Cute girl! She is so sweet. They've only been gone a day but she was all snuggly and rubbing us so DS earned his cat sitting fee by sitting with her on the floor and giving her attention (while I scooped her box...... )
Came home, went out to dinner with my parents. They took DS to their house because DH's band is playing and I had a knitting night scheduled. We sit and knit while listening to Miss Marple on CD. We've got a few more chapters and we're done. It's been a lot of fun. Tonight the lady who dyed the yarn I'm using for my shawl was there in person. It was strange to be working on it while she watched!
Tomorrow is the seed exchange at the church. I planted a bunch of stuff today. I think I planted 72 tomato seeds, 9 varieties! Yikes! I'll be giving away extra plants but that's okay! Not everyone is set up to start seeds so maybe we'll do a plant exchange in the future! I also planted three pepper varieties and some basil. I've got to gather the left over seeds to see what I can bring to share. Obviously I'll be holding back the things that I haven't planted yet. I've got some left overs from last year that probably are still good.
I've got more duck eggs than I know what to do with. This will be a baking weekend though. I'm hosting coffee hour at church Sunday plus it's DS's 9th birthday.
I'm going to need a weekend to recover from my weekend!
