Went to hear the band play at Fred's, a local pizza place. This was their first gig since the guitar player died. Another friend from another band played in his spot. They sounded fine but Jim was missing. All his subtle touches were missing. The crowd had fun and man, was it a crowd! Someone was celebrating a birthday and had a huge table reserved. Everyone who's ever followed them showed up in support if they could. Sad, but a step toward healing.
No more losses in the coop but Butterscotch isn't well. She's one of my older red sex links. I don't what's up. She's alert but doesn't want to move. I checked her over and can't find any injuries. Something internal I suppose.
I peeked around Edna the broody duck. She's got a pile of eggs under there. I swear one is a brown chicken egg. That could get complicated! Guess I'd better have a brooder ready to go. I'm not sure when she started to sit so no idea when to expect any hatching. This will be a first for us. We've incubated once here and I did one other time at school. Never had a broody follow through.
Hitting the hay now and will be busy outside in the gorgeous weather getting the beds filled and planting things. My home grown tomato seedlings about to zilch unfortunately. Very disappointing but peppers, broccoli rabe, and cabbage all look good, if a little small. I supplemented with some things from the nursery today. It should still be a nice little garden. Pictures soon!

5 of 8 raised beds are built. Three are full of topsoil, peat moss and compost. Two are planted with tomatoes and marigolds. The third will be planted with pickling cukes tomorrow. I also tucked a few lettuces inbetween the maters. I sweated. I scraped dirt from under my nails. I scrubbed my feet before changing into non stinky clothes before dinner. Cooked dinner on the grill. Chicken breast which got chopped up and served over greens with bleu cheese dressing, mmmmmmmmmmmm! Had a GF beer. I earned it! It was hothothot and will be hothothotter tomorrow. I do NOT want to march in the parade. I want to honor our veterans and remember those who gave their lives in service. I do not want to start my week sick from the heat. :/ Or DS even more so. I have water bottles filled and in the fridge. We'll see. If it's already miserable by 9:00 when we have to leave I'm begging off. We can go to the park where the memorial service will be and participate in that I supposed. We'll still be remembering without making ourselves ill.
I'd love to fill the rest of the beds if we have enough top soil and get more planted.
15 days to go, which includes one day of finals at the HS when I will only be able to see my Special Ed kids who don't take finals and the last day which will be clean up and paperwork. DS has 14 days and will have to spend my last day with his grandfather. DH has 19 more days including finals plus 2 teacher days. All the days they lost with snow and roof issues has caught up to them. So he goes until June 29 then heads to New Haven for 2 two weeks on July 3 for training for a course he'll be teaching next year. I think he gets to come home on the weekend in between. DS will be at camp the first week and I will have the house to myself! I think I'm glad about that. I'll keep busy that's for sure!
I took a nap today!!! And now I'm going to knit. Awesome day!

Heehee sometimes wishes do come true. The parade was scheduled to go on but the lightning caused the Scouts to pull out so we are back home. It's still raining too. It will get steamy later I'm sure but these passing showers are lingering, watering the plants and giving me back my morning!

It's horribly hot already - and it's not even noon yet.

Fixing to head out and work my hive - praying I don't get stung - and not sure what we're going to do with the rest of the day.

Hope bees cooperated!!!
Well, the sun came out and it got steamy. I swear I sweated more in the last two days than I did all of last year. I'm talking dripping off my chin and rolling down... well, you get the idea! I was working!
All 6 of the beds that are built are filled with soil. 3 are completely planted. One is started but I will continue to sow seeds for greens every few weeks. I got cukes into part of the 4th but have more to add. Peppers should go in tomorrow and if I find my missing bean seeds those will go in as well. We need to build the last 2 beds for that garden and get more top soil for them as well as the old raised bed behind the garage which is where the melons will go. That will require at least a makeshift fence to keep the chickens and ducks out.
Aside from the parade not working out, which left a kind of empty feeling, it was a wonderful weekend. We got tons done outside. I'm filled with a sense of accomplishment and I'm looking forward to summer more than ever. Not just the time off from work, but a chance to purge and plan, regroup and see that the three of us are on the same path with the same goals and the same priorities.
Back to the elementary school tomorrow. 4th grade is gone on a field trip so it will be a quiet afternoon for a change. Tuesdays from 12:30 to 3 are usually flat out!
Three full weeks left, then we're broke but happy!

Glad to hear you got your morning back...but I know the hot and humid! It was 93 here today, and humid! UGH! We too was able to get a few things done this weekend....hoping to get the garden planted tomorrow. I wanted to give it one more day to dry up some.
Hope you find those bean seeds! I know i lost some a few weeks ago, but thankfully found them on the kitchen counter, behind some egg cartons. Jeesh!! lol

I don't know how accurate it was, but I saw a thermometer at a bank that said it was 99 today! And, it was humid.
