You could get one of those sisal rugs you are talking about and decorate that or even make a ground cloth out of an old drop cloth.

Even with conventional flooring, the whole theme sounds fun and VERY cute! I really love decorating a room. My luck however I usually have to redo walls, insulation, wiring, repair the windows and redo the woodwork and the floor ... BEFORE I get to decorate!

Such is the life in an OLD house.

Mhm. Ours was built in 1968 which doesn't qualify it as "old" just poorly built. Sigh.
Yes this should look nice when it's done. And nothing says I have to do it all at once either. DS has been nuts for Indiana Jones for a few years now and I don't see the trend ending any time soon!

Our house is a 1928 model. VERY well built ... in its time, just things are wearing out.

I do like it's character however it is a Craftsman bungalow.

Sweet! 1969 New England ranch here. NO character whatsoever. Just a box with a roof. :p DH bought before we met. I'm happy we have a home so I make the best of it. ;)

My daughter has a 60's straight ranch. It used to be my parents house and when we lived in it - boring! White walls, normal furniture. Just plain Jane.

Daughter #1 has an amazing eye for decorating. The majority of the house is done in a medieval theme, since her hubby makes chain maille and collects swords. She has colorful tapestry and cool old furniture. Her bedroom looks like a retreat and matches the main theme. Her computer room is jewel purple and a elf and fantasy theme. The guest bedroom is powder pink, beige and paisley and is full of old horse paintings and prints. Her bath room is even beautiful a sage green and white slightly medieval and slightly old world forest. :love

Even her cat litter box is beautiful! She bought a big wicker storage cube, then cut a hole in the side reweaving the material around the opening. She lined the box with vinyl like you use on a bathroom wall. Then she flipped the lid over and added silk greenery around a beautiful silk with natural log tree. The cat box goes inside and it looks like a decorative planter for a big tree in her bathroom. The whole goes to the wall. The cats LOVE the privacy and the litter stays where it should. Cleaning is as easy as lifting the lid off.

And I thought that old "modern" ranch was a featureless boring house! :hu

Mmmm! My green beans didn't make this year. I usually eat them all raw before I ever get them in the house. :p

Wow, that does sound cool! I'm no where near that creative!
Although the ideas we're getting for DS's room are going to make it look really awesome! We're off to church. I'll post some of them later.

Me neither! That is why when I see a "plain old box" of a house transformed I am amazed.

My daughter taught me that those "featureless" houses I used to dislike so much are really like a blank canvas for the creative mind. No features to get in the way of YOUR imagination!
