Time to make NO Bake cookies!

...OR homemade ice cream, or rice crispy treats, or anything you can stir - eat and that tastes very sweet. ;)

Yeah, I was thinking about bringing up the ice cream maker. "If you just shush for 3 mintues I'll let you lick the dasher!!"
DH has to work an evening shift so he's coming home an hour early. I'm going to the store for ice and that's what we'll be doing this evening. DS is out walking the puppy at the moment. Ah, three minutes of peace!

A little cooler today. Got my mother to take my son for a few hours and went to yoga class. Two weeks in a row! Thought my friend who teaches the class was going to drop. After that I went clothes shopping :/ since I had a gift card my mom had given me for my birthday. I found a cute outfit that will work for school and church into the fall. I think the room I'll be working in at the high school is going to be very warm right through the year. No window :(
DS said the funniest thing after dinner tonight. I had caved in and bought fudgsicles the other day when it was so hot. He asked after dinner, "May I please have a fudgsicle?" I replied, "Sure, may I please have one too? And what about Dad?" DS (7) answered, "Sure! Three fudgsicles, on the devil!" meaning "on the double" DH and I just about fell off our chairs giggling at that one. I think we have a new family expression. "Clean your room, on the devil!" We're late for school, get in the car, on the devil!"

DH just called from his band gig. Looks like they're stuck playing till 1:00am even though there are only 6 people left in the place. This woman who used to date the lead singer booked the gig without really check with any of the original band members who are all 50+ years old. They've all been there done that as far as playing late night gigs in bars. They prefer the private parties and street fest type gigs they've been doing the past few years, with the except of the statewide Blues Fest. Well, this woman didn't realize that and was so excited that they got this local gig and might get more that they could only tell her they'd do it this once but weren't interested in repeated the gig. SO anyway, DH just called to tell me he doesn't think they'll be ending early and that the lead singer just up and left. No one is really sure why. He seemed to be upset about something. He did just have his wisdom teeth out and was having an issue with an infection but they don't think that's what set him off. So they're all shrugging their shoulders and playing instrumental stuff now, because none of the rest of them can sing!
To top it all off tomorrow is the day we head to NY to visit SIL and kids at DH's parents house. I have since found out they didn't fly from Iowa to Chicago, they drove. Then they decided to drive on to NY so that they could spend some time looking at colleges in the East since nephew will be a senior next year and niece will be a junior. Now you'd think on the drive east there would have been a moment when SIL picked up her cell phone and called her brother to tell they were coming. Or that my in-laws who knew they were coming at least once they started driving might have given us some notice. Instead we had to rearrange our weekend plans to accomodate a visit. Nevermind the fact that today they drove from NY to Yale to Wellsley, driving within a half hour of us. There's more to this story than we know at the moment I think. MIL is annoyed with SIL that they showed up on the doorstep with little notice, then promptly took off again to look at schools. I think there is some poor communication going on coupled with two different agendas. MIL is thinking this is the usual summer visit before the kids go back to school and SIL needs to get her son looking at some schools while they have the chance to be out here. I expect it to be tense tomorrow but for a change it won't be my fault!
We need to be up early to get the puppy and his crate to my parents' house. They will be pet sitting while we go camping next weekend so they're doing a trial run tomorrow.
Man, wouldn't that have been interesting if they'd showed up the weekend we were going to be gone! Hmmm, there's something to ponder as I fall asleep.

Got home from in-laws about 10:45pm. We had a good visit. The kids (15 yo niece and 17yo nephew) were in much better moods than they were at Christmas time. Niece who was sullen and miserable then was pleasant, and helpful. She became a vegan sometime before Christmas and during that visit all she did was sulk because MIL didn't really get the whole vegan thing and didn't have much food in the house that she could eat. This time niece was willing to prepare her own things instead of whining that she was tired of eating grapes. They were all excited because they'd been off visiting colleges in the east. Niece fell in love with Wellsley which is where SIL went. Nephew, who really needs to get on this, so far likes Harvard best. It would be cool to have him there so we could visit Boston! He liked Yale as well, which is just a little closer to us. I went to school in New Haven (NOT Yale:p) and it would fun to spend time there too.
Today my parents are coming over and I will be grilling spare ribs from this months CSA order. Green salad, corn on the cob, German potato salad, watermelon. If we don't have a thunderstorm it will be great!

Mmmmmmm, rain stopped, no thunder storms. Ribs were delicious, corn was sweet. Had a nice dinner on the deck listening to the ducks quack. Wish they would start laying again. I found a health food store that will probably be willing to sell my extra duck eggs! Drat! No duck eggs to sell....

DH and DS planted the bamboo shoots we brought home from my in-laws in NY. They have a gorgeous stand that blocks their view of the street. It has flourished since they first transplanted it 12 years or so ago. My father was here for dinner and insistst that you can't grow bamboo in the northeast. Drives me nuts. He's got to have the last word so this stuff better survive so I can prove him wrong! The in-laws shoots tower more than 10 feet tall! And they're not all that much further south than we are! We are hoping to eventually screen out the large storage trailer our neighbor uses to store his construction equipment. It is extremely ugly and parked right along our property line. There are some trees in between but they don't completely block it.

I have a tomato! One tiny green tomato! I'm hoping to have a beautiful ripe brandywine before Halloween......

Got some rain over night I think so no need to water the bamboo. I think it is DH's new pet. He already emailed to find out if I'd checked on it!! Wish the birds' pen would dry out so mom doesn't complain so much about having to take care of them in the muck that's out there.
It is drier than it has been and the sun is shining. I'm hearing our first cicadas of the summer. I'm hoping the nice weather holds so we can put up the tent and check it before we leave on Thursday. Need bring down all the camping equipment and go through it. Hasn't been used in a year!
It's a beautiful day here. Nice breeze. Should be able to get a bunch of stuff done and not feel exhausted afterwards. Good thing, because there is LOTS to do!
