Make your puppy food into a light mash... Add a bit of water, it'll soften it up so it doesn't hurt as bad, just for a little while.

Another great thing I've found works great is... I found these bones that you soak in water (they're fabric) and then freeze, its a teething toy for them :)

We've been doing the rope bones. I've got several in the freezer. It does seem to help if he chews one before he eats he'll be a little numb. I forgot to mention that he absolutely turns his nose up at mashed food. He's really been challenging, trust me! The past two nights he did eat most of his kibble with warm water but he won't finish the soggy left overs.

Also forgot to mention we are pet sitting this week. Monday through Friday nights we are taking care of our friend's three sheep and her two cats. Since I'm back at work doing the morning chores will be too much so she asked my mother to do them. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings we also are taking care of another set friends' two cats. Same ones we took care of a few weeks ago. Busy busy busy! Tuesday night I'll be at puppy kindergarten with Indy so DH and DS will have to pet sit on their own. That is back to school night for DS and I don't want him doing it later when I get home and getting off to a bad start for the next day. Since my mother is hoping to substitute more frequently this year I've agreed to put DS in the before school care program and he'll have to get up earlier than he did last year so I can drop him off on my way to work. I know it works for lots of working parents out there. It's just a change I'm not looking forward to, you know?

We did the before care program for a while. Really it was not so bad. They basically get there eat breakfast (or what the school calls breakfast) and then play a bit and it is time for school. It is the AFTER school program that I don't like. Kids are tired from a hard school day and they just want to kick back and play a while ... instead it is even more organized "teacher stuff" even though it is supposed to be play. I think it would be similar to working all day and then being forced to going to aerobics or dance class or something every day.

Now on the sad subject. POOR HEN! :( I am SO SORRY YOU have to go back to school.

You KNOW I feel your pain. Last week wore me out and I got SO little done at home it was pathetic! Same every year.

Well you put on your brave face and go out there and earn those dollars. Have a good year. I hope the children you work with are all smiles and straight A's! :)

School starting is my favourite time of year :D Because that is when my brother is gone for 7 hours out of every day!!

Except, this year he is getting on the bus from the end of the road for high school and his bus is at 7:20AM, mum drove me last year so this year it is my turn to drive Kev to the bus stop... ACK!

I can't wait till we get the ATV and I can just drive him on that, it'll be a lot cheaper than running the truck to take him 2 km down the road.

Luckily I don't have to GRADE them! They'll be here on Wednesday. My days and schools are still not settled. Funfun. Today we sat through meetings, none of which pertained directly to what I do. But that is typical. This was district wide so I got to catch up with the people I worked with last year as well as some of the people from DS's school. I was able to confirm that the SW did get my email about having a plan in place Wednesday for recess when DS will be in the same space as the girl we had lots of problems with last year. I want him to start of on a positive note. Overall it was hot, humid and boring. People were nodding off during the afternoon presentation!
Tomorrow I will go in for more meetings at the elementary school and start unpacking the boxes. Rooms were moved all around. Speech now has the psychologist's old office and apparently she's totally ticked off because she can't store all her books in the old speech room. Well, gee, let's look at the big picture here. She's one person who works 3 days a week. Speech is three people, one of whom is in a motorized wheelchair that barely fit in the old room. I just love starting a job with someone disliking me before she's even met me. My supervisor tried to talk to her about storing some of her books in our room and the psychologist was really rude about it. There's always one. Hopefully we'll be there on different days.

We have problems with our Speech teacher as well. She was supposed to start taking our kids this morning, but put us off. When our teacher asked her when her services were going to start and she gave us some garbage answer. Last year she seemed to be late or just manage to be ill almost every Monday .. the day we have language group. I am amazed she has kept her job. :duc

If finding a certified speech pathologist is as hard out there as it is around here, I'm not surprised at all. I get asked nearly on a daily basis when I'm going to find out what I need to do to get my certification! That's why our district has hired three speech assistants, to take up the slack. It does mean that the certified pathologists do have to devote some of their time to supervising us, but it's the only way all the kids get seen.
We won't be taking kids for a few weeks here. Scheduling takes that much time!

Our speech path has mostly our program to deal with ... only a few reg ed students. She should be able to see our kids, since our kids are what she is scheduling!

You are right. It is hard to find good qualified people.

Our district has a huge number of kids to service. The middle school has almost 80. There are 4 elementary schools which vary in size. The high school probably has another 75-80. We have to carefully screen which ones are truly language impaired and which are second language learners. We have a very large Hispanic population. We still have really high numbers compared to the rest of the state. It makes for large caseloads for all of us. We have 7 full time speech pathologists, two part time and three full time speech assistants. One of the SLPs is a first year, so she requires supervision. It makes for a very busy job for all of us. We all really enjoy the kids though so it works out.

Made a delicious dinner of grass fed "minute steaks" on homemade bread, fingerling potatoes and green salad, all from the farmers' market. I'm stuffed and happy. Drowsy even. Looks like an early night for me. This working stuff is hard!
