Great score on that trellis. Have fun. :) I hope Mother Nature gives you a long gentle rain to make your plants and fish happy.

It's funny how the leaders still keep their jobs when cut backs happen. Good luck to all those kids.

While I do still have my job in our local school system, I can empathize. Our system struggles in so many areas. The Hartford Courant just published an article that was fairly honest and factual about our situation. It doesn't sound all that different from yours.

It is very disheartning and some days I leave the high school fearing for our future. We are not preparing these kids for life. There are so many strikes against them.

It's happening everywhere. They're trashing our most valuable asset and not even thinking about it.

Sometimes it seems the whole concept of public education is on the agenda for elimination in our evolving country. I wonder what the powers in charge think the masses of people who will grow up with no skills whatsoever will be able to contribute to society.

amen.

On a lighter note, I had a great evening last nite. Have already started eating some of the greens we planted and the concrete stones we have been making are finally starting to amass and we might actually have a pretty cool pathway when we are done. :thumbsup
Well, I have no one to blame but myself, our new dog got in the chicken run. He went after the black aulstrop and must of done some damage. She was down this morning and unable to move.
I looked her over but I didnt see anything. But she was so pale around her eyes and comb. Nearly white. :hit She may be just dying from old age, but I worry its because of Rockys greedy belly and too smart ways. He found a back way to push threw the chicken wire and squeeze in to get their feed. The black hen gave chase and he went for her. I never saw him grab her but I fear she might of hurt herself in the flight.

I put her in a carrier, since the dirty roo just kept mounting her and pecking her head while she just lay there to weak to fight. :somad
I know logically that he's just being a chicken but it made me so mad to see him abuse her like that while she was so sick. :rant

So today I expect to go home at lunch and find her dead. She looked totally physically sound, just very weak and pale. I tried to feed her and she refused. I held her when I looked her over and she squaked weakly, and the dang roo acted all protective. :smack After all the meanness he dished out he better shut it. Hopefully some rest and not being jumped on will bring her around. Im gonna read up on chicken problems and see if I can do anything. I really think it could be old age tho, she stopped laying for the last year and some. She's normally real happy. Sad to see her like this.

That's an easy one. It's only certain powers in charge. The ones that are stripping budgets of public schools are trying to create an uneducated work force. Next step get rid of federal minimum wages and rights and we're back to the good ole days. It's amazing stuff. I never thought I would see the regression that we are seeing. I just always assumed our country would go forward. We really do live in a bubble sometimes.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. I'll get off my soap box. Your thread title caught my eye and I'm just a little passionate about the subject matter. The people should be in open rebellion about this stuff, but they just sit idly by while our schools are dismantled piece by piece.

Good luck with your hen- ours are older now, too, but they are (all 6 of them!) mostly pets. They are 6 this year and all but one have started laying again. Maybe your girl is just in shock- chickens get shocky really easily but with quiet they come out of it again.

No offense taken Dunkopf. I too am shocked at how things are falling around our ears. I applied for a job at a nearby business, one of the bigger employers in this area. They are shutting down in May. The Texas Youth commission. Wow.
Soooo...I cant sale my house, I cant find a job....gosh, what do we do now???? I dont know where to turn. Jobs are no where to be found. Im sick about it. I have two small kids. How do I care for them??? Today has been a rough and scary day.

Well, my chicken was alive this morning. She's drinking water when I put her head near it. But she wont stand anymore. She just flops. I think Im gonna ask hubby to go ahead and put her down this evening. I dont want her to suffer.

My son and his dog were in the dog house all day yesterday. Hanging out. It was really cute. They would run around the yard and then run in the dog house and lay down. My son stank of dog after laying on his dog blanket snuggled next to him. But he was happy and in love.

On a note about me...personally. I hav realized I have been a bit of a bear. I have been depressed over my job, my 20 year old daughter. Just crap in general and sadly my kids and husband are catching it. I am going to move forward with an attempt to be more positive, even if it kills me. haahaa.

So here is to smiling threw the pain and believing in belief. I believe my life will improve because I will do what it takes to make it so. I have too many people who need me to.

I have decided I need retail therapy. Gonna go buy two climbing roses to go over the trelis that hubby built. That always makes me smile. I may even buy some herbs and some vegies. A fruit tree too. Maybe a peach or pear. IDK. I just need to keep busy. Going to sleep at 8 pm is starting to spook my husband. He says he's never seen me so depressed.

SO the plan is to garden and garden some more. Play with my kids. Make love more than once this weekend to my hunk of a husband. Stay up past ten pm and not be bummed.

I will have a great weekend dang it. And so will everyone else reading this. Cuz its the power of will.

I will it so.... :plbb
