So, (how) have you turned your dreams into reality?

If you live in the country, are you self-employed or do you commute?

Does your day job speak to who you are outside of work hours?

Give me words, your advice, your stories... I feel so claustrophobic in this city sometimes, I just need to know that there are people out there who have succeeded in living differently.
My dreams were to have a family, chooks, a vegie garden and be somewhat self sufficient, live in the country and be fit and healthy.

I met my firefighter hubby at 26 and we now have 3 mostly lovely boys.

We moved to the Country for hubbies work, now he works back in the city and commutes :/. I call this the Country but t'hats because I came from a major city here in Australia.

I work as a Remedial Massage Therapist part time from home, this enables me to live my life of all home cooking, and tending to the garden (I am sounding very 1950's here) and looking after the cooks.

I also have a home gym so have the fitness part covered.

My day job does speak to who I am outside work hours as I am also trained in natural therapies - Acupressure, Aromatherapy and Reflexology. I can use all these therapies in my family life and do daily, I also like to help and heal people so it feels that my work life is in sinc with my life philosophy.

The only thing I feel slightly claustophobic about is the amount of washing I have to do daily :ep and that really isn't helping the planet much but I don't know what the option is :/.

I remember the days of three kids at home.

The washing machine never stopped! No worries, someday it will finally slow down. :D

For us we live near the city, near enough for hubbie and I to get to work there. We are on 2 acres in a neighborhood surounded by cattle and horse ranches.
What he does is in line with is degree, he loves it, most days, and what I do is tech support . I enjoy helping people who are frustrated beyond belief with their computers.

We are just starting out in the SS lifestyle. We have changed a large number of our living patterns/habits in the past year/year and a half and most of our friends and family find it very interesting, but think we are generally crazy

BTW - I have 2 boys and a girl . .the laundry . . we have a set of "play clothes" that pretty much only get washed once a week. One outfit that can be worn to play and get totally dirty in and we just wash them when they get unbearable or an animal poos on them. ;)

We also, my husband and I, will hang up our work clothes, providing they are still passable, and give them a fresh pressing next time we want to wear them. This has dramatically cut down on laundry as well as reduced the wear caused by the washing on our cloths.

Congrats on your decision to move to the country! I think you will find your life just got richer and more varied.....like a beautiful tapestry woven anew each day. I could never live in town again and feel any sort of peace. :)

It is really amazing. When we are here in the city things just seem so normal, but after we go camping for a while into the "wilderness" where no people are our perspective really changes.

About 50 miles from the city - you see the haze.:/

As you near the city - you notice trash everywhere and ... well less oxygen. :(

In the city - the stench just slaps you. It smells of rotting garbage, exhaust fumes, and stinking people. :sick

Hubby used to be a city kind of boy. Now days he can't wait to go camping and get away from the city to rest. I keep trying to explain that if we just moved it could be nice everyday. Problem is his job is city bound and he thinks we need to be able to pay bills and keep a roof over our head. But I notice his city resolve is slipping. The last time we were in Elkhart KS he was talking about moving there! :ep
