I am curious: Who here doesn't use Wal-mart? Why??

Nothing has to be exclusive for anyone.

I am a firm believer to spend locally. And to support with donations your local charities etc. Keep it where you live----but I definitely shop walmart and other stores.

Life isn't about 1 thing ever...it is about diversity in one's own life. On every level and that is just a personal situation for each of us.

In a few weeks I will be spending a large amount locally. I do this twice per year, whether I can afford it or not. Last year's stimulus went to to this, too. Doesn't get much more local than this and it truly helps my community. My property taxes.

Hah! I thought you were referring to Christmas!

Yes, me too. I cannot get over how much our property taxes went up this year.

.....and the absence of second hand stores..... :) Folks around here actually WEAR their clothing...wear it OUT. Probably because it was cheap stuff from WM in the first place...but there is no wearable clothing left with which to open a second hand shop.

The best second hand shops are in bigger cities where the rich folks get rid of the clothing they bought and didn't wear out last season. Heaven forbid that they or their children should wear the same clothing two years in a row....these places are gold mines. When I went down to SC, we visited one of these places and I couldn't believe the big name clothing folks threw out.
I LOVE shopping second hand! I get the best clothes there for so cheap! That is where I go before anywhere else. Great brands that the rich toss aside is right! Love it!

Upwardly mobile folks are those who make enough money to have choices in where they shop, who make $35 an hour and think it's chick feed, who live where their yearly taxes are half what I make a year.....at least from a lower income viewpoint, that is who we refer to as upwardly mobile. :p
I say the same to you; if you are not happy with your choices why do you stay in the area you live in? You can be "upwardly mobile" too if you think that makes life so easy. I came from the inner city and worked almost full time while going to school full time and raising a 4 year old as a single mom to get my degree. I wanted a better life for my child.

I am sorry if my salary is such a problem for you. If you want, I can give you some tips on how to get there.
Hiker dear, I can get to where you currently are all on my own if I so wish! I once had a mortgage I couldn't really afford and worked two jobs also.....or weren't you reading when I told you that earlier? Nope...too busy getting mad at each little suggestion that you, yourself, asked for. Where you are is not really a desirable place to be~hence your thread wanting to know how to recover from your life choices.

It's clear that you get angry at anything I say, whether it was meant for you or not, so feel free to vent over your discontent. If you bothered to read or stayed here longer than a few days you could find that I am one of the most content people on this board....love my life here, love my current station in life, love this ol' impoverished area. That I feel the need to defend some folks' decision to shop at WM has nothing to do with you....although your stated salary was slightly amusing and was an easy point of reference. :p

Now.....do you feel like you need to vent further or will you continue to just insult me and rage in PMs like the sweet little missile I found in my PM box this morning?

Get over yerself, dear.....not everything in this world is about YOU. ;)

We have Goodwill and Salvation Army. I see people loading carts with the 50% off tags. I recognized one lady who I know(she has quite a trust fund) and she told me she sells them on EBay!!! Not just the needy buying from thrift shops, I'll tell ya!

Down where I came from they call the Salvation Army SAKS 5th Ave. as it is located on 5th street. When I worked for the govt. some of the really well-dressed ladies shopped there, even though they could afford to shop elsewhere for the same labels. Smart thinking, if you ask me!

Money, or lack there of doesn't define us as folks, it defines aspects of our lives. Who we decide to be and treat people defines us as humans.

Disgusting!!! I sometimes feel guilty, like maybe I should be buying full price for my kids since I could afford to do so (although if I kept doing so, maybe I couldn't afford to after all!) That is really, really disgusting.
