this bear visits your pond with her cubs.
Don't be offering this bear up for a meal..LOL-LOL---sounds more like a cool wildlife pet for you.

I have some fox on the property I won't let Tony hunt. I see them out in the big hay field. I use my binocs and watch those foxes...and the kits. Tony of course wants to blast them but I won't let him. As long as they aren't after the chickens, I like to watch them and enjoy them actually. I guess they are my wildlife pets...haha--------I also have 2 monster fat pet groundhogs that live under my red horse barn. Tony wants to practice on them but as long as they aren't digging holes in the pasture, hang at the barn and in the trees behind, I am fine with them. Again, they are my wildlife pets. (I guess like 2dreams wildlife spider pets--LOL)

For now, his bear is safe, because I can't for the life of me convince my husband to go bear hunting!

He said, "Why would I want to go out of state to hunt?" My reply? "Because it's bear hunting!" His reply? "Well, I want to hunt moose and Elk, too, I don't see you arranging that!" :he

This morning he told me he doesn't know if he'll even be able to go deer hunting this year..... he mentioned he doesn't know if his back will handle him shooting his shot gun this year. He said it hurts when he sneezes, how do I think kick from a gun will feel? :/

He's hoping his back is more healed up within the next month.

We're still eating on the doe he got last year, but I don't think we've enough left to stretch it all winter.

I saw some ads on local craigslist - people have too much venison and are offering it for free if you pick up. Have you checked craigslist lately (for something other than poultry  )?

I've been avoiding CL like the plaque!

MP, how do you cook your venison? Ernie found a new recipe for Venison and Pumpkin curry. He wants to try it. It is in his recent Field & Stream issue.

Venison/Deer meat is a staple in my neck of the woods. Some one already wrote a book, http://www.qualityvenisoncookbooks.com from my neck of the woods.

I like to can the toughest parts, its great for crap on the shingles (gravy and meat over bread) quick and easy. Canned is also great over tators in the cold months.

Me? I like a good neck roast, in the slow cooker. I also like fried with butter in a cast iron pan, the leg muscle in the hind leg. It's not tough, makes for a good steak, and is great with eggs, almost as good as trout for breakfast. Back straps are over rated for hunters that need something to naw on...

It almost makes me sad that your dh isn't able/won't hunt for your rug.

I finished the cold smoker today, and I think its safe to say... LET THE SMOKING BEGIN!!! :celebrate  :celebrate

So what do people smoke that makes a cold smoker so important?

The first answer would be jerky.... It is what it is, tough cured meat to naw on.

The second answer would be bacon/sausage, pork (check) beef, deer, turkey, and veggies.

The third would be turkey and chicken.

The forth answer can be one of many of the following;

Beef sticks
Summer sausage
Brauts
Bologna
Sausage
Blind Robbins
Smelt
Hillbilly Treats
Salmon

It depends, but all are good for smoking....
