I think Fran is thinking about going broody :ya She was extra hissy at me yesterday while laying her egg and she's been making alot of noise for the last couple a days. It would be great if I could have some ducklings to sell.
Gaaaaahhh, we have to travel today so had to fill up. I don't drive much so the van only gets filled maybe 2x a month.
I'm teed that this is the first nice weekend we've had and I have to be gone. :barnie But we will have a good time at the in-laws.

Well, it's back to storms but we had 3 mostly rain-free days in a row! Even the mama goats were out kicking up their heels and playing with the doelings. Rory was standing on the stump making a face that I believe was a smile and it was sooo funny!
I didn't get much done because we had to travel and I got fatigued, but it was nice to not have to dodge puddles and rain all weekend.

Fran the duck is not yet sure she wants to be a mother. She sat on eggs for half a day, 2 days in a row, being all hissy and ferocious to all and then just got up and walked away.

We have so much creative fencing going on in the yard for all the different sets of birds. It's a little ridiculous but necessary until a.) it stops raining so much and b). the chicks are all the same size and can be put together.
I'm now looking for one of those rubbermaid yard storage containers to move the meat chicks into. We have to have something we can move easily and close up at night so they don't become dinner for a wild critter.

Now I have to come up with soft meals my kids can eat because they are both getting palate expanders this week and it will be painful I'm sure. I'm thinking pancakes and some kind of noodle casserole. Probably force some green smoothies on them too.

I was just going to suggest smoothies. What about pudding with your goat milk?

Say Java, what did you say you soak those alfalfa cubes in? I got a bag yesterday.

I threw a couple to my bunnies and they thought they were a big treat but soaked in water my goats did not like them. The ducks liked it though.

But how did you get the goats to eat it?

Oh gosh! I never got back to you on the cubes, so sorry. Your goats didn't like them? My goats eat almost anything that comes in a feed pan so I didn't have to do anything special. All I do is soak them in warm water for awhile before I plan to use them. Awhile can be anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. However, my spoiled goats like them at different levels of soaked so Perdy gets them almost mushy but Rory likes hers just past damp :p They will gnaw on them dry too, but I worry about their teeth.
And the amount you will need to use depends on how fast your goat can eat them, so you just have to figure that out. I use a gallon size ice cream pail with about a 2 inch deep layer of cubes, then I fill with enough water to cover them. While they are soaking I get my milking stuff ready, put out fresh hay, etc. I pour half the cubes and some water in the pan, sprinkle on the grain and it's ready.

Our rabbits are loving the cubes too.

Well my goats never like anything the first time they see it. Very picky. Maybe I just need to keep trying it. They did not like their goat chow when they first got it and now they get mad and fussy if they don't get goat chow.

I sometimes forget that alot of goats are quite picky.
We are milking in the rain again here. Say, that sounds like a song. Barry Manilow? Well at least it would sound happier than I feel when I am milking a wet goat :sick

Sos sorry to hear about water in your basement. That bites! I admit that I half-a$$ed the milking this morning and let the doelings finish them off. I was soaked, the goats were soaked and mad that I drug them out of the barn and was beyond caring about a good haul today. Most of the yard is under water again :/

What a bummer on all that rain...here I am watering my newly planted bushes and looking longingly towards the sky...

Our day will come, though, I think tomorrow. Then it's bright blue skies again.

I love New England.
