I have gotten used to everything being literally 5 minutes away. I hate, hate, hate being in the car. An hour drive just about kills me. Plus my kids have always been very poor travelers. My son -as a baby - got overstimulated so easily that put of town trips were a nightmare. He's still not into socializing much, be he's manageable. We are true homebodies :)

Luckily our parents don't mind driving and since 2 of my siblings also live down here by me, we see them frequently. And they will be here tonight, so I need to get busy soon.

Here's a good lesson - when building a barn/shed, do not make the entrance shorter than you are. If I had insisted on a man-door, I wouldn't have knocked myself out yesterday when I forgot to duck. But I backed down when we were building the goat barn. I did say "you know I'm going to hit my head on that beam someday" See, I'm short. I'm NOT used to ducking. Hubby is tall so it's not something he even has to think about. Well, this week was one of those weeks when I wasn't real steady on my feet, plus I was wearing my hood up because of the wind and snow so I didn't see very well. I turned to walk out of the goat barn and thought I had cleared it, but I slammed right into that beam. I hit my head so hard it knocked me back, my neck cracked painfully, and I somehow loosened a few teeth. I'm 99% sure I have a concussion. I still have a mild headache this morning and my whole body hurts. My vision was blurry for awhile but that is better now.

To add insult to injury, I had started feeling better and discovered that the da#m dog had vomited in 3 places. Because she ate the wet duck food that I threw out. Huge, nasty piles of vomit. Thank God she had the mind to go to the hardwood floor instead of the carpeting. We ended up tossing out a rug and her bed pillow because we were both gagging.

None of this was on my schedule :p I'm just glad I woke up this morning.

I had had that problem for years with my dh family. It does not help that we moved away form our "home town" and all live in another place. His sisters, parents and us. His Mom does Christmas Eve dinner and then says come back for breakfast and we will open gifts.

The worst part was that for the past 15 years it really was a glutton fest. It made me ill to see how much they spent and how little everyone appreciated it. I would make my kids stop and watch others open gifts. A concept the others do not do or get. The past 2 years have been better. Things are scaled back because of the economy and business stuff.

My dh has always been pretty good about the whole "their family our family" thing and how we need to make time for both.

This year I am thinking about staying home Christmas eve and only going over Christmas day after we have out own breakfast and gifts.

Not sure how that will go.

Ouch, sorry about the bump on the noggin. Feel better!!!

I think I'm OK. I might need to go to the chiro and get my neck adjusted. There was no bump, which worried me. If I start to feel worse I'll have my brother check me out - he's a nurse and can tell me what to do.

Gina- your situation sounds alot like mine with the whole glutton fest and such. It was always extra rough because DH's folks and mine only live a few miles apart and we'd spend 3 or 4 days party hopping. All the while getting fat and grumpy.

:hugs Honey, I hope you're feeling better!

This year my MIL and my little brother are driving 6 and 8 hours respectively, to come to my granny's house for xmas eve and xmas day. We are getting up xmas eve and having xmas morning at our house, and then driving 3 hours to her house to spend the night and come back at noon the next day. I feel ya, girl.

We normally don't do this, the holidays are at our house. You want to see us you come here. End of story. But my granny just had a knee replacement and it was hard for her to do Thanksgiving here at our house this year so we are being flexible.

It'll all be over soon!

Glad you are ok. I hope your headache goes away soon. We have that problem in our hay loft. We asked the Amish guy to make sure we could walk upright in the hayloft. Well, he could be we can't. I have hit my head numerous times on the beams. Luckily nothing bad but it can sure scare you.

Wow, ouch. I hope you are feeling better soon.

I tripped and fell last night while carrying 5-gallon buckets of feed and water. Thought I only banged my knee, but this morning I can barely move from the pain in my shoulder up into my neck. Seeing the chiropractor this afternoon. :hit
