:frow Karen - I felt so bad for you and Surprise, but I'm so glad she's doing well.

SD - I am going to get an iron. The paste stuff scares me more than the iron. I'll be praying that a solution comes your way. There's plenty of time for miracles :)

OFG - the kiddos got to stay home today. I got a 'cold headache' as soon as I stepped outside this morning and I'm nursing it now :caf The goats don't seem to mind it - the were out stomping their hooves at me because I overslept and breakfast was late. I need a stomping goat smilie...

I took melatonin to make me sleep last night because I've had such a bad week. And I did sleep. Buuuuut, melatonin makes me feel hung over :sick So I have to counteract it with ibuprofen and caffeine :p I was desperate for sleep so it was worth it.

Yes, the Stones song was going through my head but I didn't think people from Ohio were into them.......:cool: I loved the Stones.,,,,,Hubby and I went to see them for our first date in 1981!

I was reading threads about dishorning paste last night. Sounds like some people have luck with it although most everyone seems to prefer burning them off. Sounds like it is mostly the hassle of making sure it goes on correctly, although some people report more scurs. I'm thinking of sending a PM to the person on BYH that seemed to have the most luck with it, ask a few details on the procedure. The price would sure be right, and I have more time than money so hassel is okay. I think I'll research that and stop panicking about not having a disbudding iron.

Healthy kids needs to be the goal for us! And this time I don't mean my teenagers.

How do you guys get the vets to give you Bose? Vets can be picky about who they dispense prescription stuff to. How about if I say, "Help! OhioFarmGirl and Javamama and Ksalvagno all use Bose and I don't have any!" Think that will work?

At my prior employer, they felt Bose was "not needed". :smack

Do you know if you need to supplement selenium in your area? Our soil is deficient here so Ohio folks need it. I'm not using prescription BoSe. I got some selenium gel from the feed store to have on hand, but I'm using an herbal copper/selenium from FirMeadow. com. I give them the herbal all year round as needed - the instructions recommend about 2 tsp. weekly, more if needed - like now during the final month. I got the gel just in case I need something stronger. It was around 7 bucks for a big tube.

Is there anything better than warm cookies when the temperature is 15? I think not. (well, unless you have fresh milk to go with it ;))Plus hubby needed some to take to a meeting tonight. So we made oatmeal cookies and whole wheat chocolate chip with pecans :drool The oatmeal were so-so, but the whole wheat choc chip comes from the best cookie recipe I've ever made. It uses coconut oil which gives it an amazing chewy-ness and the whole wheat gives it a great texture - not at all what you might expect.

Recipe: Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies

3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup unrefined coconut oil, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt - * Java's note - I use 3/4 t. of sea salt* as I like a slightly salty/sweet flavor
1 cup chocolate chips
optional: add chopped pecans or walnuts

1. Heat oven to 375F. In large bowl, beat sugars, butter, oil, vanilla and egg with electric mixer on low speed until blended. Beat in flour, baking soda and salt until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips.

2. On ungreased cookie sheets, drop dough by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.

3. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until very light golden brown (centers will be soft). Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack.
