I did not know that Abi! Wow.

OK, I gotta get going. It's almost 13 degrees now so I guess I can brave it. We are outta milk and I need some special connecter thingy to hook up the barn cam so I can spy on the goats at all times. And I think I'm going to Aladdin's to get some of their soup that I cannot replicate no matter what I try - it's the chicken len-chili, if you are familiar with Aladdin's Eatery.

I'm so jealous you will have a goat cam.

I do, however, have a teenager......he is never cold so I'll make him be my official goat cam and make him run out and check.

Hey JM, I am trying to figure out what to do about BoSe shots here. My breeder 2 hrs south of me doesn't use it but she says her area is not selenuim deficient. Don't know what mine is....how do you find out, call the county extension agent? Where do you find a map of these things?

Hi Lori! There are maps but I've never looked at one. I just went by what people in the area say. Maybe check with a local ag extension or a feed mill might even know. But I think it really depends on the land your hay is grown on. How's that for a non-answer? :D

Edit - here's a link for a map, but I'm not sure how you apply the numbers to what a goat needs

Thanks for that map, Java. Looking at my home state I can totally see why everyone wants to buy "eastern" hay (although it is from Washington still so that is west to you!). That was very informative, thanks.

My photo skills are awful. Plus the girls won't let me take photos unless I'm outside the fence. If I go inside, they think I'm holding a shiny treat

Good luck!! I'm gearing up for my FF to go in the next 2-3 weeks. She's just blown up over the past week and her udder is so darn cute!

Good luck to you too! I admit, I"ll be a little sad after they have the kids and slim down :p It's funny to watch them waddle around like this.
