Almost Self-Reliant
6 April 10
Monday my boys left to head back to OKC. I already miss them. I just dont get to see them enough. While they were here, we utilized thier strength, and youth. Got both of them to get on the house and get the Christmas lights down, clean the downspouts, and place fencing over the openings to keep those nasty birds from filling them with nests. I also got them to switch the downspout from the south side of my coop...to the north side, so the water barrell is closer to the main door. Hubby had them help him get the push mower cleaned and ready for summer, and the tiller. Now if we can get some dry weather, I will get my garden in....I hope.
Today I went to Orschelins. I have been saveing for cattle pannels and T posts. Finally had the money for 6 pannels, 20 T posts, and a gate. Plus, today being Tuesday, they have military discount. SWEET! It was hard walking past the little chicks and ducks. Of course I stopped, looked, informed someone there was no water in 3 of the pens, and there was a dead chick. :/ He was prompt at getting it out, and watering tho.
Got the everything loaded...and came home. It was a site I am sure...being that my S10 has a small bed, and the pannels were 16 ft long! LOL Made it home without a hitch. The neighbor was home, and she helped me unload them. All was going well, untill I tried to get the strap off. Somehow my pinky finger slid under the strap and was being pinched against the wire pannel. It took 4 of us to get my finger free. OUCH! Luckily its not broke, or dislocated...just really sore. Took a little break...then decided to use 2 pannels and a few T's to make a small outside pen for NElly and the babies. Once I got it done and turned them out, I sat and watched the babies jump and hop around in the grass. All the work, and pain, is so worth it to see little lambs frolicking in the fresh grass. I had to put chicken wire around the bottom...to keep the babies in. Tomorrow, IF we dont get rain....my son is coming out to help me build the hog pen. I can't waite to get it finished, and get my piggies in there.
I will be going next week to look for my apple and peach trees. I cant waite to get them in the ground..and growing. Persimmons, Apples, peaches, cherries, grapes, and various berries. Maybe next year...a strawberry patch. Hmmmmm.
