I call dibs on the orange and white! (remember I hate cats!) I just love orange and white kitties!! Usually, the norm is orange cats are toms (like calicos are girls) BUT my cat had a little orange one this time around - and it was a girl. Sadly, she was one of the little ones that didn't make it. :(

We have 3 girl kittens and 1 boy kitten out there. They just opened their eyes this week. :love

Awww, so sorry you lost the orange one. Hey, if these all make it, and you are serious...these babies will need a home in a few weeks! ;)

Whew! I was able to get the smaller garden completely planted today.
50 onion sets...3 rows ( about 5 ft long) of carrotts...2 rows ( 20 ft) of peas...2 rows (20 ft) of beets...and 9 cabbages...that were SUPPOSED to be Brussel sprouts! I just love it when people switch things around in the garden area, thinking its cute. NOT! Oh well..I will go back tomorrow and get REAL brussel sprouts to plant. :p
Tomorrow morning..if I can beat the rain...I will get the taters in. I know..its late...but better late than never...right? LOL ;)
Still no goat babies. :/ I swear...she is crossing her legs just to torture me. Altho..I THINK I can feel the tendons everyone is talking about. I was thinking they were "butt bones" but now I am rethinking they are the tendons. So, if they are tendons I am feeling...they are strong and hard. darnit! Oh well, this is a good thing really. I haven't had the chance to put the smaller holed fencing around her yard area yet. The cattle pannels have big openings, and I know little goaties can pop right through it...the lambs did! So glad they are people friendly...they came running to the neighbor kids who spotted them out of the fence. Whew! Disaster diverted!
Hopeing the rain is short lived...so the larger garden can dry out enough to get it tilled and start planting in there. I can't waite to get my lima beans in..and green beans...and tomatos...and cucumbers..and corn..and...and...Oh heck, I just can't waite!!
Oh, and if I were a cat...I would have used one of my nine lives today.... I was headed out to my truck, talking on my cell phone to my son, not really paying attention to where I was walking..when I looked down and literally inches from being stepped on was a snake!!!!!! It was about 1 1/2 ft long. OK, it was just a ribbon snake...but..still..it was a SNAKE!! I screamed...my son panicked on the phone...what?? whats wrong?? You ok?? Mom??? I was finally able to get my breath and tell him what it was. The snake just squirmed away, looking at me like I was in ITS way! Oh boy...too early for snakes! Guess it will be a snakey year?? That means...lots of mice to be expected. darn!

Yesterday was a cool day. I actually had to wear a sweater most of the day. UGH! I wish this old planet would STOP with the PMS! LOL
Hubby helped me in the barn yesterday...I am thinking THATS Why we have this colder weather. Actually had a freeze last night. ;) Woke to 31 degrees. Brrrr.
We had to put up my new gate, and a small piece of fence between the 2 goat yards. Then I replaced a piece of fencing and gate for the inside stall for Pebbles. One more gate to go..and I should be finished with the stalls for the barn. I say "should" but anyone who has goats...well...we know being "finished" with fencing or gates is not likely to EVER happen. :/
So my brother called me yesterday...and asked if he and his little one could come out to see the lambs. His little one is almost 3 yrs old. ( he is 52) Long story there. LOL
So they came out...we took little Anna to the barn to play with the goats and lambs. She was squealing with excitement. :love I haven't seen my brother in just over a year I was excited he called. We walked the property..looking for mushrooms( didnt find any) ..he identified a plant in my woods that I had concern for. Turns out its May Apple. Not a big deal.. whew! My brother is VERY knowledgeable in plants he had been a grounds keeper for the U of Oxford in Ohio for almost 20 yrs. We took little Anna to see the chickens,Turkeys,Ducks and kittens. She is such a sweet child...and full of wonder. They spent the night last night...and altho they are still sleeping...I am looking forward to haveing a great day with them again today. I am planning to go out and get all the orning chores finished before they get up, so we can just hang out and chat. I hope everyone has a great Sunday....relax..enjoy the day.

So one garden is in....one to go. Whew! So far the beets, peas, carrotts, onions...planted. Today I am going to TRY to get the taters in! I swear, every time I say that, something comes up and I dont get time. Yesterday I had to replace 2 of the coops doors. We had originally made them as only pop doors. About 2 ft tall, 18 inches wide. The plan was to put a gate at the end of the run, in case I needed to get in the yard to help a chicken, or get them inside for the night. Well...as with most things....the gates never were installed. :he So with the predator problem we had the other night..I have to lock everyone in again. This means crawling through the pop doors to shoo the bantys inside. Dont they realise when I call them in its for thier own good!?? NOOooooooooo, so on my hands and knees...I go through the pop door, to get them inside. Well...I am DONE with that!! I took the sawsall....and cut the doorways to about 3 ft tall...and 2 1/2 ft wide, and put new door on there. Now I can get through there, and NOT be on my hands and knees! :ya I still need to make a few adjustments today...and drag the water hoses to fill the rain barrels, since we havent had enough rain to fill them. THEN plant my taters...I mean it....if I have to plant them by flashlight, I WILL get them in!
Still no goat babies... :/ I give up. When she has them, she has them...I wont check her tail...I wont rub her tummy...I wont go out and check on her 2 or 3 times a day. ;) ( yeah right)
I also need to get the meaties pen finished. They are quickly outgrowing thier brooder. They will be outside chicks soon! Woohoo!!
OK, time to get on my boots...feed and water the animals...turn them out..and go check one more time...for mushrooms. Wish me luck! Altho..im not exactly sure what I would do with mushrooms if I was to actually find them. LOL

Yesterday I was contacted by one of our local feed stores. He said there was a woman in there that needed to find homes for a few farm animals. :/ He then proceeded to tell me that thre is a pair of " some kind of sheep" , a one eyed pony, and a "regular jenny" I am going over today to look at them, and see what they have. Apparently this womans father owns them, and is getting to the point where he can't care for them any longer. I think I have found the sheep a home...but the pony and Jenny might still need homes. It really depends on thier condition. I wish I had more fencing...I would bring them here...but I just dont have the room right now. OK, im off...wish me luck! I will try to get pics.

Good luck getting the rescues!

Sheepies! wow!

We did the pony route last year - never again. She totally stripped our pasture of every edible blade of grass!!!!!!

Well....I went to look. There were 2 Jennys...one he was keeping..one he wanted to get rid of. BOTH were in such terrible shape. :( Thier hooves looked like they have not been trimmed in YEARS!!! They curled up, and they both took baby steps to get to me...and walked very tenderly. I told him flat out, they were in BAD need of a farrier. He said he has a farrier taking care of them. :/ The hooves were split, broken, and curved. I dont think so!
The little pony is 4 yrs old, and never handled. She was shy...and would not come up to me.
The sheep...Shetlands. In need of shearing.....terribly! Neither were friendly...she ewe walked out to the far end of the pasture when we went in...the ram ( a beautifull cinnamon color) ..well...he was a little standoffish...but the guy said he was " mean" So, I didnt bring any home...but I will try to get homes for them ASAP. ESPECIALLY the Jenny. I felt so bad for her. She is white, with beautifull spots on her. I couldn't get pictures...he was standing right there the whole time. He had a potbelly pig, running loose..and LOTS of rabbits, chickens, and a few ducks...all running loose. Some people just are not meant to have animals..and this is one of them.
