WOW, I don't know what kind of spider that is but I wouldn't keep it around too long. My hubby is deathly afraid of spiders.....he turns into Little Miss Muffet at the sight of the littlest one and yells at me to "kill it, kill it, kill it......"

 big baby

I can TOTALLY connect with your hubby on the spider thing. I Was literally trapped in my bathroow once...by a spider. I was on thr phone with my sister at the time..I was getting ready to leave the bathroom, and there it was...sitting above the door, on the trim...just waiting on its chance to pounce on me! It was black, fuzzy, and had shiny green metalic looking eyes. We call them jumping spiders...for a reason. So I whined to my sister about the spider....she said, " oh, just go out, it wont hurt you" YEAH RIGHT!! It was already hurting me! It was between me and freedom!!!! So I stepped closer to the door...I was feeling brave....im just gonna run through...ok, when I stepped closer to the door...this spider went to the center of the trim, waiting to jump on me when I passed under it. I could sence its little brain just a working. So I stepped back..and it went back into the corner. I was whineing to my sister, she was laughing at me so hard, she almost peed herself. Now, she doesnt get it...IM SCARED~! I made several attempts to the door, and each time this wooly little booger would make its way to the center of the door frame. See?? It was a smart spider. Just how long did it plan to keep me captive in my bathroom???? So my sister told me to get the plunger, and just smash it. HA! YEAH RIGHT!!! And get even CLOSER to the thing!?? I dont think so! I looked around, and was relieved to see that I had left the mop in the shower to dry. Woohoo, I had a weapon! SOMETHING was gonna die that day...and I was going to make sure it was NOT me!So, phone in one hand...mop in the other...I crept closer..now...im not lyeing...this spider rared up its front legs..as if wanting to spar with me!!! I screamed, my sister laughed...yeah, sure laugh, you are in OHIO!! FAR from the spider that has me trapped in my bathroom. Oh, and did I mention, NO ONE was home but me!?? At this time, I am almost in TEARS! I cant fit out the window..already contemplated that...and this mean old spider wanted to fight. So, after about 30 minutes...me whining, begging, pleading to my sister to drive to Indiana and save me..to which she was laughing hysterically and calling me names like we were 10, I finally grabbed the mop again....im gonna whach this thing...and run. Uh hu...suuuuure!! Slowly I stepped closer to the now armored spider. I gave it time to make its plans...mistake on MY part. I took the end of the mop, and was planning to poke it into the spider, hense smashing it into the wall. Well...that spider had its affairs in order...and when I stabbed at it..the darned thing jumped ON the mop handle, and started towards me!!!!!! I SCREAMED...threw the mop, and ran screaming through the house. I kept going untill I was safe outside. My sister still to this day makes fun of me about that battling spider...I dont know where it went...once my son got hmoe, I sent him in armored with spray, a stick, and a shoe. I told him to stay in there till it was gone. He never found the spider. I never went back in that bathroom! We moved a few months later. So Lori...I can really understand your hubby...spiders FREAK ME OUT!!!

The mulch idea sounds great! :thumbsup Wish I had that much good compost to spread.

As far as the spider it is probably a type of wolf spider. If it was me I'd be squishing them.

My sister is VERY afraid of spiders. Several years ago she inherited my grandparents small old bungalow. They had lived there 45 years and the basement was full of "stuff" and spiders. My sis had to clean it out and every time she would move a box or lift something up she seemed to find a spider. Then she would freak out. It seemed we were spending more time on her freak outs that on cleaning, so I decided to make up a little story while we worked about Bob Web the spider who lived in a Cob Web. (keep in mind my sister was an adult at this time so a baby type of story seemed more funny than anything.) Well the story worked! Instead of a freak out she would see a spider and say VERY rapidly, "It's a Bob, It's a Bob,It's a Bob It's a Bob!!!" Then I would go a smooshing. To this day all spiders are now Bobs to her.

Justusnak: I read your story out loud to my sis over the phone (she lives 165 miles away) and by the end we were both crying...my from laughter tears and her from fear of spiders tears! See, she is like you. Since we shared a bedroom while growing up, I can't tell you how many times I woke up finding her vacuuming the entire room, including me, trying to get a spider who she either saw or dreamed that she saw. Even as a 53 yr old adult, if there is a spider in her bedroom and her DH misses it, then she sleeps in another room! :ep

OFG, I dont run from spiders either...I stand there, frozen in fear! Im telling ya...I have seen some spiders here that I swear would eat baby chicks!! As for the spider in the picture...I looked online. Its a member of the "Nursery web" spiders. Thank GOODNESS I dont have babies in the house, I just KNOW what woud be going through my mind with a name like that!! Turns out, they are very beneficial...they eat woodroaches. No other spider will eat them. Soooooo, as long as they stay outside...we are ALL good!
Murphysranch....my sister was laughing so hard, her daughter thought she was hysterical...so my sister put my call on speaker...so her daughter could get a good laugh too. :/ Looking back now, I can laugh...untill I see another spider that is! :barnie
Today was HOT HOT HOT!!! I have been working outside all week, trying to get caught up. Not working with this heat. I work a little, then rehydrate/rest under a tree....then work some more. It takes so long to get anything done that way, but it keeps me sorta healthy. This morning I was out by 8:30, hand cutting weeds that were 4 ft tall. I filled my dump wagon that pulls behind the lawn tractor 4 times! My goats were very happy! The neighbor girls came and cleaned the coops. They layed paper on the garden for me and put the old shaveings on top. I watered...and watered...and forgot about the hose, so I watered some more. Almost 3 hrs later, I realised I had the hose still going! :he
Turned it off...let it settle, then went in there and cut rows for my Lima beans. Finally got them planted. :weee
Hubby helped me plant 16 tomato plants, and 16 pepper plants in the other garden. Hopeing I can get some green beans planted tomorrow. :fl I looked in on the potato plants. Looks like about half of them are coming up. Thats ok tho, I was worried that they would ALL come up, I would have been overloaded with taters. They are in an area about 10 x 15....and there were 30+ plants in there. So, with half coming up, I think we will be OK!
Cabbages, cauliflour, brussel spruts and carrotts are looking good. Onions are a little on the small side...and peas..well...we will have to waite and see. They are not doing so well. :/First it was too wet and cold, then straight to HOT HOT HOT!!! I have YET to be able to grow peas! darn it!
Still have beets, corn, green beans, cucumbers to get in the ground. Unfortunately...rain in the forcast for the next 6 days! :tongue Hopeing that in 2 weeks...we will be processing the chickens. Whew, they stink, and I want them in the freezer, and canned NOW! LOL
I hope everyone has, or had, a great Memorial day.

Your garden looks great! 15 wagon loads of soil? In this heat? Lady, you are my hero! :D

Everything looks very green and neat in your garden, J. You are way ahead of me....barely have a few things sprouting here and there right now.

Remember...weigh your harvest so we know how many pounds of food you got off your plot! :)

Thanks Bee. The spring garden has been planted for a while now. It sits on a slight hill, so planting early isn't a problem there.
Weighing the harvest. Now thats a great idea! I guess I really have a reason to go get me one of those hanging scales now. LOL I have wanted one for a while..like the ones they use in the grocery.
The summer garden is only just getting planted. I fear I got a few things in late...but I will see what comes up.
15 loads of dirt took me from 9 am, untill almost 2 pm, or maybe it was 3?? I did take lots of water breaks. My 28 yr old son is always telling me..."Mom, show Skyler(my grandson) your muscles. I have to admit...for a woman my age, my upper arm muscles are pretty firm still. Oh, I have the underarm wagging thing going on still.... :/
Last evening, I was sitting here relaxing with my coffee...when I saw lightening..and was talking with my friend on the phone...telling her how I was excited to get a small rainstorm. Then I remembered...I left the chicken coops open. It was about 11:30 pm.:/ So, I "suit up" and head out to close the coops. I was on my way back to the house...when something ran up behind me, then stopped in front of me! Oh boy, my kiki ALMOST got clobbered!! Stupid cat!! Got back inside just in time for the rain. Whew! Made it! Then...I remembered...DANGIT..the goats are in the pasture, with no way to the barn! So, I grab the lantern...jacket...wet shoes....and head to the barn. Poor dears were standing in the rain bawling! :( I grabbed Pebbles and Halfpint...got them in thier stall...and let the boys in the other stall. As I was going to move the lantern, the bottom fell out, and the batteries went flying. :he So, now in the dark...I grabbed my cell phone...and used it for what little light it puts out, to locate the batteries. Every few seconds, my phone would go into "safe mode" and go dark. So there I am, sitting on the floor of the barn, messing with the phone for light, trying to get the batteries in the lantern. Took me about 10 minutes. So, while I am sitting there, I hear something jump into the open door...on the front of the barn, and out of the corner of my eye I see a shadow.:barnie I almost threw the lantern at Kiki....my "wonderful cat" I swear, that cat will be the death of me...or himself, around me! :gig He likes to sneak up on me when I am outside after dark. Just as I got the lantern working..the rain stops. Just a little 10 minute storm, complete with lightening.
So, its 7:30 am....Chickens are out, fed, watered, and goats and sheep are out mulling around. I think I will head to the garden while its still somewhat cool...and try to get my corn and beets planted. :D
