Oh the life of a farmer! No wonder our friends all think we are crazy ... none of them ever go running outside when the storm approaches. I have done that stuff SO SO many times.

As for sneaking up, when I was a kid my dad used to think it was great fun to sneak up and hide just outside of the barn door after dark. Good think I have a strong heart! :gig

Whew! Its raining.....again! No, its not just raining...its POURING!!!
I just got inside...from putting the goats in the barn. I felt a few sprinkles coming in, but stopped at the spring garden to put more support for the peas.
Now....why is it, when you get to the furthest point from the house, for me its the barn, you have to Pee.??? I mean, I can go before I go out there, but as soon as I get in that barn, I have to go again! I have GOT to put me a composting toilet in there! LOL
So the other day...I was able to get my corn and beets in.. :D Then, I was checking out the taters...ummm, im gonna have lots of taters! 60 plants coming up! I had leftover corn seed..from last year...about a quart. So, I free seeded it over the taters.(no rows, just threw it in there) Not sure if it will work, or even come up..but, if it does...we will have PLENTY corn as well. LOL This year, I have decieded I will "experiment" with the garden. Oh, I did some conventional plantings, just in case..but I wanted to try out a few new ideas, like the free seeding.
Im headed to town here in a few, to get the matierial for my grand daughters Christening gown. Now, dont get too excited, I am NOT makeing it. I have a dear friend who is a seamstress..and I know she needs the money right now, pretty bad.....so I am paying her to make it. I just hope she can have it done in time.
I took a picture of my cornish yesterday...thier time is coming to an end. Saturday morning they will meet thier destiny. A few of them are super big. Once they are gone, I can put the ducks in there. I can't waite.

My little Banty Cochin Frizzle runs in there with the throughout the day...she teaches them to forage.

I have a nice comfy 5 gallon bucket in my garden shed just for those gotta go moments! Besides that the pee works great to fend off vegetable thieves like rabbits and raccoons! Just pour it around the garden edge to "mark your territory" :gig.

Yup, those are the "frankenchickens" I have to say...altho they DO grow grotesquely fast...and poo WAY more than a regular chicken....man oh man, you can't beat the meat on these suckers! Mine should dress out at about 5 or 6 pounds each. I plan to leave a few of the larger ones whole...for roasting when we have company....cut up a few for fryers, and can the rest. I am thinking ONE chicken will get me 4 quarts easily. So, with 15 birds....we should have at least 50 meals. :) Those are yum yum gimme sum good!!
FF, I have been known to...um...not quite make it to the house. Maybe THATS why we dont have issues with predators around the coops. :D Hey, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go!! I like the bucket idea. Im gonna have to get me one now....you know, for the garden. ;)
ETA:
Today the lambs and the wee one, ( half pint) got thier CDT shots. The vet gave me the bottle, needles, and syringe. :/ And a boost of confidence that I could do this. So, I called my neighbor. :p She came over to help with the shots. She wasn't brave enough to administer them, but held the lambs so I could give the shots. First was Albert.:/ He is such a little stinker...every time I would get him in the stall, he would jump over the stall door, and scram out! I was finally able to get him in there, and knee sit him, for the neighbor to hold him. I drew the shot, and stuck him. He was very calm...and all went well. Then Laura. She is such a trusting soul. I called her to me, and she came right in. The neighbor now knowing how to knee sit them...was able to get Laura in position...and I was able to inject her as well. She was very calm...and just sat there untill I was done. Then...we moved on to my sweet little Half pint. The pygmy. The neighbor picked her up, and held her in her arms...looked at the needle, and said..." Your actually gonna stick THAT in HER!?" OK, I already was feeling a little scared because of her size. The lambs are about 35 or 40 pounds...Half Pint MIGHT be 3 pounds. So, I settled the neighbor..and felt for loose skin in half pint. Well, the way the neighbor was holding her, I couldnt get the skin pulled. She was holding her in a "protective, motherly way" So, I asked her to sit on a bale of straw...and let Half pint rest in her lap. I was able then to get the skin pulled, and stuck her. Poor little Half Pint whimpered...not once, but TWICE! Just 2 little short whimpers. My eyes filled with tears, and I looked at my neighbor, who was almost bawling! Oh great, make ME feel like the mean one! She pulled Half Pint in close, like a baby, and talked to her hugging and soothing her. I then took Half Pint and gave her kisses and hugs...and let he back with her momma. It was only a few seconds later, I saw the blood! I almost panicked...seeing blood on my little one. I grabbed her up, got a cotton ball and Iodine from the Med. bag...and dabbed it on. The neighbor took her from me and hugged her close, talking to her, like a child. After a few seconds, I convinced the neighbor that Half Pint was OK, and she let her down with Pebbles again. The blood stopped...and Half Pint was jumping from bales of straw to the floor, like nothing happened. :D Unfortunately...I have to repeat this in 21 days! Im not sure I can do Half Pint again....I might have to call in backup. Her little whimpers just broke my heart.

Five gallons are just way too narrow, and thus unstable for the more substantial amongst us. Might I recommend the more robust seven gallon, lined with dollar store plastic bags for easy disposal?

Note: When camping and utilizing said convenience vessel, interior lighting should be OFF.

Trust me I am plenty "robust". :gig

I just had a lot of experience peeing into a one pound Folgers can while in the back of a camper roaring down the highway at about 75 miles an hour whilst driven by a drunk :ep when I was a child!! We used to go on vacation with my grandpa who constantly drank a beer while driving, never seemed to pee and only stopped when he "needed some gas". This was further aggravated when he installed TWO extra gas tanks to the truck. :th

These days my hubby knows better than to drive any longer that about an hour and a half before stopping or I start getting flashbacks!!
