My Concord grape died after 15 years of so so service. My other grapes are Niagra and Himrod. The Niagra is about 24 years old now and has been producing well with NO fungus all of these years.

I threw out some grapes to the chickens and now I have a volunteer grapevine growing under the nesting boxes. Gonna have to dig it up and try to move it....I have no idea what kind it is....I have tomato plants growing around the duck pen too.....crazy birds!

Hey FF, are the Niagra good for jellies or wines? I havent tried wine makeing yet, we dont really drink it, but just wanted to try ONCE. LOL

Lori, make sure those are not wild grapes. Grandpa called them possum grapes.

What a long day! Hubby had a Dr appointment at the VA. Well, its about an hr and a half from home....yuk. So, we headed up there this morning...was finished about 2ish. Afterwards, we went to a gals house that had donated 3 farm gates to us. She said, " they have some rust, but are useable" Are you kidding me!?? They are ALL RUST! One of them the bottom pole is completely rusted through. I will have to look at them tomorrow, and see if they are salvageable.
After we left there, we headed home. Got about half way, when I remembered the gift card my future DIL gave us. It was for Red Lobster. :p So, we decided to treat ourselves. Red Lobster is WAY out of OUR price range..but, with the gift card, we only spent $20.00. I felt we deserved to be "spoiled" just a little. Got home, hubby got ready for work, I headed outside to check animals. I decided to move the goats and sheep. Doing the old switcharoo. Goats on the sheep side, sheep on the goat side. The sheep are not eating the grass down as fast as I would like, and the goats have just about eaten ALL the grass down on thier side.... All went well...untill...the 3 big boy goats...decided there were just so many things on the sheep side to be EATEN! Feed bags in the manger...got em, plastic in a trash bag, got it...nails on the ledge...I got them. LOL So, I finally got everything moved...I think...out of thier reach. :fl I will know in the morning. LOL
Just as I was finishing up, a lady came buy to see what I had for sale. This woman is...well..a little unbalanced, but..she is nice. She bought my 5 last turkey poults and a pair of showgirls. She had her daughter with her, who just had a Birthday..and was holding the last kitten from the litter. So, I said...you like that kitten. She smiled and said...Oh yes, he is so sweet. So, I said...HAPPY BIRTHDAY! THEN I turned to her mom and said...thats OK, right?? LOL Oh, I know, it was mean....however, that girl really loved that kitten, and carried it most of the time they were here. So, all the kittens are gone. Whew!
Tomorrow we are planning to go to my step dads, and help him trim some bushes and trees. then we are going to get a few loads of firewood. Its free for the taking. :) So we are taking it. Sunday, we are headed to the inlaws...for a cookout. We will be there most of the day Sunday, so after helping my step dad, and getting firewood, I need to clean out the coops, and try to get some more weeds pulled from the garden. Busy, busy...it never ends! AND, Im loveing it! :D

There are several Missouri wineries around us and I have seen Niagra wine from them on several occasions. I even tried it once and it was pretty darned good.

Since I only have the one Niagra grape vine I would be hard pressed (wine pun intended) to have enough grapes to make wine with. I always have plenty for some jelly however! Good stuff!

I am sure you can make wine from any grape. If it isn't sweet enough, you can always add some sugar to it. It is not something a winery can do, but for homemade wine, there is no law against it. ;)

By the way, I am so sorry you had to put up with such obnoxious people around you son's funeral.

But, you will go on. Eventually there will be a new "normal". :hugs

Angel is soo cute, and NOOOO I am not getting sheep. At least not this year! LOL

Today was one of "those days"
It started out...let the animals out, feed, water...and pet. Well enough. Came insidde, grabbed a cup of coffee...sat down to pay the bills. Woohoo! All the bills paid, and $100 left! :D Then I had to get to town, drop off some bills, get groceries, and gas. I was on my way into town, and it hit me..I started crying uncontrollably. So I stopped my truck, and cried. After a few minutes, I was able to get going again, only for it to hit me again at the water co. I got in the truck and cried some more. After about 5 minutes...I left, going to the bank..I was OK untill the teller asked me how I was. An Innocent question, she asks every time I see her, I started bawling again. I pulled into the parking lot, and let it all out. then I got to the store...I was OK for most of it...then, again..jeesh! When will it stop!? I left the store, got gas, crying the whole time he pumped it for me. Came home, put away groceries, made supper for hubby, packed his lunch, and got on the couch and cried myself to sleep. I slept from 2 untill 6 pm. Got up, a lady came to buy my turkey poults and a pair of naked necks. She elft and I cried more...so I put my sadness into the garden. I got the hose going...and started pulling weeds. I feel better, Im going to go get my shower, get some coffee...and finish my book. Oh, after I lock up the animals, and get eggs.

There will be days like that, but I swear things WILL get better.

For the time being be sure you are taking EXTRA special care of yourself. Eat plenty of good nutritious food (even when you are not hungry). Get plenty of rest and in general be kind to yourself. Remember that a person is NOT just physical... we are emotional (mental) and spiritual as well. When one part of our being is affected all of the parts are in stress. That means it takes a three part strategy to recover as well. Care for the body, care for the mind AND care for the spirit.

Remember we are always here to listen if you need support. :hugs

Whew! Busy, busy. I had applied for a job several weeks ago, not thinking I would get it. Well, I got it. LOL Its only a 11 day job, doing "role playing scenarios" at MUTC. Its an Urban training center for the military. They are training these young men and women how to handle "civilians" dureing a disaster. There are about 150 of us hired in..and today was day 2.
Yesterday we stayed in our street clothes, they took us to several different sites, dropped us off with our team leaders, and we were instructed to act " Dazed and confused" and to NOT get confrontational with the military. We were to wander up on the checkpoints, and ask for water...ask what happened, why is there no utilities, what was the blast from...etc. THAT was FUN!!! Altho, I have to say, we had one young marine almost in tears. :( I wanted to give him a hug and tell him it was OK, we are just acting. LOL He looked to be all of maybe 19 or 20 yrs old. Poor kid, but GREAT training for them all. Today, we went into Moulage. Makeup and dress. We were made dirty...cut, bleeding, fallout burns, it was great!! The makeup artists did a WONDERFULL job! Here is a pic of my sons "wounds" He had fallout burns on his back! Looks REAL!!

We are working 12 hr days, rain or shine....and have to wear bathing suits under our clothes so we can go through decontamination chambers. Tomorrow, we are to get "confrontational" with the military checkpoints....women will cry, beg for help for thier children...etc. HOW FUN! I cant waite.
Now, on the OTHER busy side....hubby and I had to get a goat house built..last Sunday. We had ONE day to get it finished before the rains, and my job started. So..on a concrete slab in the pasture..

we built a "cabin" style shelter for the goats. Its 8 x 10. The wood sideing we got free, from a lumber mill. Its called " first cut" from the logs they get in. Its the bark, and a strip of wood under it. So....here it is...I hope it lasts. It took us 11 hours..but its done!!!

OK, so I wont be able to get on much...working these hours, once I get home I am trying to get some canning done, after animal chores...and a quick shower before bed. Today I got 10 pints of green beans, tomorrow....corn, I hope. :)
