got a little sunkissed..and Monday we are to get snow. Yeah, THATS FAIR!!! NOT!!! COME ON SUMMER!!
We must have about the same weather...we are expecting the snow also. The night is so clear and every star is shining....its hard to imagine snowing in two days. I got a sunburn today also....I love it! It always makes my skin feel so soft! :p

Building fence is hard, especially the sturdy one you are putting in! Having a post auger is wonderful though.

I'm excited for you about the sheep! I will be getting mine around the end of this month and I can't wait either. I am getting the swing post sunk this week, so I can sit, swing, and watch those pretty gals eat all my mowing chores. :)

Whenever I tell someone how excited I am about the sheep and how pretty they are, they start telling me about how hard of work they are and how easily they die, etc. Like I'm a Pollyanna and haven't thought about all the bad things that could happen with sheep tending. Mostly, its men who say those things. You know what I say? Ppsshaw!!!

If a MAN can do it, it can't be too hard! Yes, I love the looks of them, yes I like the thoughts of snuggling new lambs.....but they don't know the hard, crusty side of me! The side that kills animals and converts them to food, who can shoot a nuisance dog at 75 yards and kill it~a running shot and with an open sight .22, sits at the bedside of dying people every day~and a dead lamb would distress me?!! I have done things in my life that would make most men run for cover and I have done them without turning a hair.

Let's enjoy our sheep, shall we? Lets just drink in their peaceful beauty while they graze on green grass! I'm not going to let naysayers spoil that for me. ;)

Bee, I too hear from family and friends...." why are you getting those stinky sheep!? You are makeing your life WAY too hard, when you can just go buy everything in the stores" Ummm, HELLO! Are they all THAT numb to the reality of todays economy!?? Besides...its a labor of love, then its NOT work. I can snuggle with the best MEAT there is! LOL Doesnt bother me to love and cuddle, then slaughter. OK, maybe I am hard...maybe I am " insensitive" as some have called me....but...I know my animals have a great life, and they will give us great food! Thats the way its SUPPOSED to be! I just love watching goats...at someone elses farm! :p Cute...funny...dual purpose..but I just dont want to have to build a "fort knox" to keep them in...and umm..well..they DO smell bad! Sorry to all you goat lovers. :/ I DO "get it" that people can love a goat...they are just not for me. :idunno We are getting Shetland sheep...and Bee, I STILL want to get a few of those black pigs...to run with my sheep...as SOON as I can find an "affordable" pair. WOW they are pricey!! :ep

How far are you willing to travel, Just? My sis's pig should be popping a litter any day now..... she might sell you some weanlings for a good price.

I feel the same way about goats...two of my sisters have had them and I've helped care for and milk them and I've never grown fond. And that's pretty unusual, as I love animals of all kinds. I don't care for goats and I dearly hate a guinea fowl!!! :sick Loud, ugly, good for nought!

Yep, I've been catching heck all week from a co-worker because I was going to cull a roo and hens this week. Everytime we talked she had to mention how heartless I was. Then, one time, she was complaining about her crappy mattress and her bad back and I suggested a good, 3 in. memory foam topper. She said that they were too expensive! I just looked at her and said, "Well, if you could save money by growing and killing your own food, you could maybe afford one like I have." I haven't heard anymore about how heartless I am...... :D

You can get a pair from the same litter and breed them. That's what she has as a breeding pair. When you deal with heritage breeds and there is very little registered stock in the country, you just have to breed siblings or father/daughter combos. I will be getting a female and breeding her back to her sire.

I'll ask her what she would be willing to sell the babies for....I don't think she wants to make a killing, nothing else on her farm makes money and that doesn't seem important to her. After all, I've offered to pay her for my weanling but she wouldn't hear of it! You see, she doesn't really like to kill anything....she collects and keeps, but she doesn't like to eat her own animals. And, yes, I think I was adopted!

But that's ok, I know goats are an aquired taste.....I love goat meat, hate lamb and mutton, so here I am with goats.

OH I want a pig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :gig

just, I was on the floor reading about SpongeBob Square Pants. I hate hate hate that cartoon. It's not even an apporpriate (IMO) kids cartoon!!!!

SIL is coming on Tuesday with her grown kids and granddaughter. Last night over the phone I laid down the law...granddaughter has to be in bed by 8 pm...period!!!! And I told them there will be no slackers here! They are all going to help with the farm stuff and building of coops...especially since my plans have been upheaveled rearranging my home to make room for them! I plan on getting it back out of them by working them from daylight until dark! We'll see how long it takes for them to find a place of their own... :gig

My kids think we are mean. They get Saturday morning aprroved my mom and dad cartoons and one maybe 2 movies during the week, but only if we already have it on DVD and then only if their chores are done. Rest of the time, outside! If it's not raining, so cold you'll freeze, or some other inclimate weather, get outta my house!

I tend to put a jug of water out in an ice chest for them during the summer months so if they get thirsty they have something to drink without coming in the house. OH and if they need a bathroom, tinkle on a tree. They can come in for the other, though :gig
