Wow on the carpet! Do you and your sister normally have a good relationship? I would have been horrified and terribly embarrassed had one of my dogs done something like that.

I will say that when I go home to visit family, I usually do sleep in that first morning, just because it feels so good to charge the batteries and I usually need it and I always rest so well there. BUT... day 2, all bets are off and everyone is up and at 'em.

Interesting on the hornet's nests. Our weather is supposed to change here tomorrow. We've been in the 70's all week. But all of the old-timers keep predicting a doozy of a winter. I guess if we get a bad one, it will start late and end late?

Double wow on the carpet!

I would be mortified if my dog did that, your sister was probably just embarrassed and did not know how to handle the situation. I hope she steps up and takes care of it, what a shame to hurt your relationship over this.
(not you, HER by her uncaring attitude!)

I have never seen a big hornets nest. We used to get the building little mud huts in out garage but they were pretty small....I suppose that's cuz we don't get snow? I would love to see pix when you do get them out of the tree!

Oh, this wont hurt our relationship...I will get over it. It just sucks that she didnt even offer to help replace it!
As for the hornets....supposedly because they are high up, it will be a bad winter....however...im not seeing any other signs really. The coyotes here still have thier summer coat...the fox's still have thier summer coats...even the barn cats...still summer coats. I have seen all black wooly worms....and orange ones. So, no help there. LOL I think the Farmers Almanac said mild...not sure, I get conflicting information there as well. LOL I just prepare for the worst, and hope for the best! :p

Yikes about the carpet! My dog is extremely well behaved, but I don't think I would / could leave him alone in a strange place. Hopefully once she overcomes the embarassment she'll have a reality check and offer to help.

I think I remember reading in the almanac it is supposed to be a mild winter. We have already had our first frost though, and both horses have thick wooly coats. Of course, today it is in the 70s, night time lows are in the 50s and 60s.

Do you have persimmon trees? You're also supposed to be able to tell about your winter from the insides of the seeds. You cut them in half from the side, and look at the baby plant inside. If it looks like a fork, you're ok, but if it looks like a spoon, better make sure you can get to the snow shovel. I wanted to check this year, but could only find 4 seeds, and all of them are so hard I couldn't cut them. :(

She does and Debbie told she saw spoons...... The farmers almanac says that it will be a cold dry winter here, with average temps being 1.3-3.7 degrees warmer this winter. Much less snow!!! :celebrate

However if the el nino shifts towards the east, we're all gonna get some pretty bad storms... :fl

Yup, my persimmon seeds were filled with spoons. :/ I cut 5 of them. Thats ok, I am ready. I say...bring it on! Pantry filled....wood cut, chopped and stacked....and all the blankets have been washed and dried on the line...ready for snuggling! I would like to get in a few more things for the pantry before it hits....flour,sugar,TP,Rice and a few spices.
The tomatoes are dried...on to the apples. Then...carpet cleaning before the holidays....YUK!
