I did not know that story about the Twelve Days of Christmas. It's a coincidence that you posted since that was the winter lights theme in Pigeon Forge this weekend.keljonma said:We finally heard that sil stayed in NY this week-end. She doesnt do well in bad driving conditions. Although she has lived her entire life in Ohio and NY, she gets herself so worked up about driving in bad weather that she makes herself physically sick. So it is a true blessing that she decided to stay home.
The weather was pretty bad yesterday with white out conditions in some areas. There were very few people at the 8:30 or 11:00 worship services. 15 women were missing from our Women's Beth Moore study class.
My sister came out for the church womens Christmas tea yesterday afternoon. She said I-90 coming east was pretty clear, but the major roads south into Jefferson were not even plowed.
Robin Thaxton, the woman who spoke at the tea, was a great speaker. She also sang a few songs and used sign language as she sang. We had little quizzes for prizes. I was the winner of a pump bottle of hand lotion for getting the most answers right (8 out of 12) in the Christmas Carols quiz! The scent is Kiwi-Strawberry, so it is going to one of my nieces for Christmas. There was also a quiz about reindeer facts; winners got stockings of handmade candies and losers got reindeer droppings. The droppings were miniature peanut butter cups. Robin also talked about Christmas traditions around the world and we sang 12 Days of Christmas, as she explained how the song got to be written and what each number represented.
The 12 Days of Christmas was written when Catholicism was illegal. Im guessing this would have been after Henry VIII left the Catholic Church to divorce his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, and marry Anne Boleyn. The song was written so that Catholics could teach their children about their religion, without being charged with treason.

There were 20 flavors of tea, so everyone at our table tried a different flavor so we could compare them. The women of the church baked loads of wonderful cookies and made some candies also. My favorite cookie was an orange cookie with orange frosting and orange zest. It was a perfect cookie to go with my Earl Grey tea. My sister had Peach Herbal tea and said the gingerbread girl cookie was her favorite. There were about 30 women in attendance, and we all had a wonderful time.
