Lori are you talking about laminate wood? If so I say go for it. It is so easy to clean and take care of. For the kids rooms a nice area rug will warm them up. I wish I would have put wood in my whole house. We did all of the common areas in Bamboo and the bedrooms and family room in carpet. Yuck!!! :sick After 8 1/2 years the wood is great but the carpet needs replacing. Kids are so messy!!

I wouldn't worry about your Mom. She'll get over it. Thank goodness they say family traits always skip a generation. :duc

Have a great day!!

Today is Nanny's 89th birthday! I am making italian chicken (yes, from our meaties) in the crock pot and will roast some red potatoes to go with it later. I also have stuff on hand to make a peach cobbler and I may throw in some frozen blueberries with it yummmmmm. Gonna take a break from the house tonight and go visit with Nanny since we are way overdue.

Finally got our right of way easement papers all finished and notorized yesterday so I have to go later on this afternoon (when I finish my coffee :) ) and take them to the electric company.

Met with the contractor about getting stone laid on the bottom of our house. All I can say is that if I spend $3k on stone for the bottom of this house i am NEVER moving. He's coming tuesday to do the work.

I am sad this morning cause I don't think I will be getting my goat babies. Everyone is really on my case about it and Chad now wants to wait to get them until after we sell the house, just in case it takes longer than expected. My head tells me that he is probably right but my heart is breaking. I know where we could get some other breeds in the area cheaper but I really like the nigis cause of their size around the children. Right now we have 6 goats on hold and we owe her $1400. We have no barn and I have found a run in horse shed with a tack room that I could use for milking or hay storage for $5k. Hubby won't hear of it. He wants a proper barn and now is reconsidering the goats altogether cause he thinks it will take too much time and keep us tied down too much. He is killing me. First he wants to be a farmer and is on the same page as me and then he does a total 180. He is so wishy washy about things sometimes and that is what kills me about him. I am constantly on him to make a decision and stick with it.

I originally wanted to get 3 goats, thanks to him we are up to 6. (2 of which can't be bred....ever) I think a 10x20 horse shed would be fine for 3-5 goats and everything would be cool. I don't want 30 goats, I just want a few to milk for us and make soap. We need some storage space and hubby wants to get a huge shed but honestly it would be cheaper to just do a one car garage. I also think we could build one ourselves or do a pole barn ourselves for the animals but he is chickening out on me.

We did decide to go ahead with the laminate in the kid's rooms and let them pick out a fun rug to go in there. My parents are going to stay home this weekend.....praise Jesus......cause I need a break from my mother.

It is oppressively hot and I have to mow the grass later this afternoon. On a high note I did get up in the attic and clean out a bunch of stuff. We made a hefty donation to Goodwill yesterday but the second hand book store was closed so I still have to get down there and trade in my books. I need to go through all of my books and do a major clean out. Theres a lot of stuff that I have that I have never even looked at....cookbooks and such, gardening books, there's lots that I could really get rid of. I should have enough cabinet space in the new kitchen that I can devote one whole cabinet to cookbooks so they are out of the way.

I'm trying to let the kids veg out a bit today before I really get moving. It's just so hot and there is NO wind. I was going to fill up their pool today but since I have to mow the yard I decided not to cause I don't want to fight the grass clippings in the water.

My pumpkins are blooming and it looks like my tomatoes need to be transplanted badly. I have several old really huge tree pots but I have to get soil to put in them.

Well, gonna finish my coffee and browse the forum for a bit and then off to do more work!

OH, I almost forgot!!!

Remember the 2 mallard hens we released onto the pond at the new house??? Well, seems that one of them has found our uncle Ted's house and decided that she wants to remain a pet. She follows him around the yard and sat next to him all day yesterday in the yard while he recaned a chair. He has put a little tub out for her to get water in and has named her "Quack".

Seems that she is very happy!!! We visited with them for about a half hour yesterday evening and she sat next to his chair the whole time we talked and quacked at him

Now that's really cute!

Our mama mallards are getting on my nerves, but I'm not allowed to complain, eat, or sell them because they belong to E

I'm really sorry about the goaties. Maybe he's just stressed with everything going on with putting the house in. Maybe talk to him about choosing your absolute favorite 3 goats - but only out of the ones that would be breedable later. Just take the ones that can't be bred right out of the considerations.

That's just a suggestion. You and your DH have to work it out to satisfy you both. :hugs

My DH learned a looong time ago that "Yes, Dear" gets him a loong ways with me

:rant I don't know what to do cause now he says he wants to separate for a while.....we are both just really tired and burning the candle at both ends....we have been really snappy (me more than him) with each other and I think we'll be better once everything is done and we are moved.

I have 4 that are breedable but I may see if she will let me take 2 or 3 and then see if hubby will try to come up with some sort of housing solution. I don't know, none are in milk right now so that makes it a little easier, time to adjust to them before we breed and kid and milk.

He has said that he want to get rid of the rabbits too. But in the same breath he says he wants to take uncle ted's 6 angus cows/bulls since they don't need a barn and forget about the goats altogether. He's killing me.....and he wonders why I'm so cranky. :rant

Are your DH and my SO related? I have the same problems lots of times. :he
SO always seems to think bigger is better!!! And then things get overwhelming!!
It is also extremely difficult to get a yes or no answer out of him
At least in my case I got him to say yes to the goats and he loves them as much as I do :love

Hubby and I have been together for almost 24 years. We communicate well...but there are times when I have to say...

"This is what I am doing. You can help me or get the hell out of the way. Either works, but this will happen."

I haven't done it often, but every once in a while you have to be firm.

I have the checkbook so I may veto him on the goats. I told him yesterday that I am just tired of everyone ganging up on me, and not just about the goats.

I'm tired of hearing my mom say "when are you going to see a return on all this money you're spending" She sees us wanting to spend money on a barn and a shed and a garage eventually and fencing and goats.

She expects us to be debt free cause they gave us a house. We have had to spend $50,000 to get it moved and build decks and put in flooring and buy paint and well and septic and driveway and permits, etc. She expects everything to be free and clear and she is seriously delusional.

I'm constantly getting harrassed about the homeschooling issue cause Tyler is "supposed" to start kindergarten in the fall. He is of the opinion that it will be too much for me to handle and that I won't have enough time to devote to the kids if we get goats. HUH? It's gonna take me 8 hours to feed 3 goats? Yeah, right.

I am so over it. We have issues about the vaccination thing too. I'm just mentally exhausted. I fought with my best friend about the chicken pox vaccine the other day.....ridiculous.

Today it is oppressively hot again so I am staying home with the kids so that Chad can get the flooring finished (hopefully), he went this morning and got the rest of the laminate for the kid's rooms $75 under budget! I have filled up their pool so that they can play this afternoon. I'm letting them watch the Jungle Book while I get the laundry done and on the line.

Nanny's birthday party was fun, the kids ran around catching lightning bugs all evening and Nanny was in a stellar mood for an 89 yr old with alzheimers. I made italian chicken, mashed garlic red potatoes with the skins on, broccoli, peach cobbler with blueberries, and a small birthday cake and ice cream. It was gooooooood.

We stopped by Chad's friend's house and got his compressor for the nail gun to do the trim this weekend and hubby promptly threw me in their pool, clothes and all. I would have been angry if it hadn't been so dang hot!!!

We're better this morning, I also explained to him that my tired and his tired are two totally different experiences. I have fibromyalgia so my tired is like the flu for anyone else and sometimes I think he forgets that.

I'm just glad that I have you all to vent to and remind me that it will be okay. :love

:ep Wow with all you have going on it's no wonder you are both tired and cranky! I have heard people say that building a house really tests a marriage - I don't think it's just building one I think is it setting up a new home of any kind and moving. You both have things you want to do and at least in our case the wants and timing are different. I hope that you guys are strong enough together to not let this pull you apart.

Maybe adding goats or cattle (or getting rid of animals) should be tabled until the house is done and you are moved in :idunno just a thought (it would be hard for me cause when I make up mind I want to get it now but I'm learning to wait - sometimes ;) ) maybe then some of the exhaustion and crankiness would be eased.

:hugs :hugs
