Well, we had a pretty good weekend. Went fishing and took the kids out on the boat (just a little 14ft jon boat) and explore some of the islands in the lake. Then the rain came and we had to go back. Oh, my dad catches bluegills and then takes them home and buries them (one per plant) under his tomato plants, peppers too I think. Instant fertilizer! Temporary fishy hands but great fertilizer!

Oh, and I have to get more chickens!!! Chad decided to take 4 dozen eggs with him to work and everyone went nuts. He sold them all by 7am! We are selling them for $2.50 a dozen for now. Enough to buy feed and break even! I even got an order for 2 more today so I am hoping to have them for friday. I've gotten 6 eggs so far today so I hope I can get them together for the guys.

I was really excited to catch up on the boards and see that Blossom had her calf! I can't wait for the day when I have animals that will have me some little babies of my own!

That's great about your eggs. You get a good price on yours. I sell mine for $1.50, but I'm thinking about going up.

Fish is great fertilizer, especially for tomatoes and peppers. I use a fish spray on mine. And yep, it smells like your dad's hands.

Got laundry on the line and water in the baby pool. Kids were outside playing all morning long, yay, no tv! I'm working on cutting it back. Maddie is asleep right now and Tyler is watching Scooby doo in my room so that he will get some me time. I just got a weather alert for thunderstorms so I am wondering if I should go out and mow the front yard. DH was going to do it this evening when he got home but can't if it's storming. The skies are blue with no clouds in sight now so I may wait a little bit.

I got to read a little this morning while the kids played in the pool and waited for the laundry to finish washing. I finished the second Foxfire book and started on the third and I am also reading the fourth book in the Clan of the Cave Bear series. After I finish that i want to read the Tales of Desperaux. I bought it so that I could read it out loud to my kids when they get a little older. Maddie doesn't like to sit still long enough to read an entire book but Tyler loves to read and be read to.

I have so many books in storage at my mom's house it is ridiculous. I went book crazy when I was in college and frequented the local used bookstore. As soon as I got the lists for my children's lit and young adult lit classes i went out and bought everything I could find. It astonishes my husband that I can read as much as I do. He can't even sit down and read a magazine without falling asleep! I love the smell of a good used book store. I am a sucker for book clubs and it is crazy how much money I have spent on reading. I am trying to cut back on spending and frequent the library more. I kind of like it cause when I can look at the shelves and read the backs of books I can try out different genres and not feel guilty if I don't like something and stop reading it.

I have actually thought about keeping a book journal to keep track of everything I have read. Hmmmmmmm I just may do that eventually.

I am soooo with you! (Ex-librarian here)

It is pretty easy to keep a journal of your possesions in a small journal book. But I ending up doing an Access database on my pc. Then as I sell the book or loan it out - I can mark it in the database (seems I'm always on the computer, for some reason. ;) )

Monday

Had a rough weekend. Granny called me Saturday night to tell me that my great grandparent's house is gone. They bulldozed it Saturday morning. We were able to save some of the tiles off of the front porch and we got my great great grandmother's bed out of the attic but had to rip out part of the ceiling to get it. My cousins ripped out lots of stuff from the inside of the house and I was hoping to get some of the windows but couldn't get up there to get it done. I haven't seen it yet. It was hard enough for me to see the outbuildings and barns gone but I don't know what I am gonna do when I have to drive by there and see an empty hole where the house used to be. I cried myself to sleep that night thinking about all the wonderful things that happened in that house.

I got ready for my wedding in that house. It was the first place we went to when the reception was over. I rode a horse drawn buggy to my granny's house and got married in the front yard.

I hand quilted my first quilt in that house.

I have spent countless Christmases there.

I slid down the banister on a regular basis.

We pretended that the staircase was a school bus and used my great grandmother's reader's digests to "play school"

We spied on my older cousin and found his stash of nudey magazines... :gig

We played the piano and celebrated my great grandparents 50th anniversary.

The back steps were concrete and were so worn down in the middle that they dipped.

We made all our meals in a wood cookstove in the kitchen.

My cousin sat at the dinner table and cried because he couldn't eat any more biscuits with fresh tomato slices from the garden.

My great grandmother would take her dentures out after every meal at that table and lick them to make sure she didn't have any food in her teeth...

It is very hard for me to deal with all of this....I have wonderful memories but thinking that everything that my family worked for in their lives has just been ripped apart is disturbing to say the least. I just wonder what they would think if they could see all this. I tried to keep myself busy on Sunday and cleaned the house like a mad woman and I am exhausted, mentally and physically. Even though my husband never had the chance to know my great grandparents this is hard on him too. He knows how much I loved the place and he is hurting seeing me hurting. I know it will get better with time but it is still hard to think about.

Lori, sorry to hear it finally happened. I felt the same way about my great-grandparents' and grandparents' houses and properties.

Maybe you could gather up the pictures and write all your memories down as short stories. If nothing else, it will be great for your children when they are older to know about their family history.

Lori, I am so sorry to hear about the house, it is hard when we have memories and then we feel part of the memory is gone. Remember that while the house was torn down, nobody can take our memories, they are ours to keep! :hugs

Hi Lori

hope you are doing OK!!!!

yea it stinks that things change so much in our lives! But we all know the big change happens, especially wtih the people in our families.

Just keep the good memories and smile. A house is just a house and your memories are with you all the time! :)

I know what you mean though...it is sad to see so much change at one time. But that sure is life!

I got a kiddie pool on the back porch for Nicole. Since she can't go in my big pool without me, I set up a small inflatable on the back porch....OH YES, well worth the entertainment value..HA HA....and I have a monster umbrella that swivels bolted to my porch......so I put the pool under it and she can spend the day without getting fried or tons of grass in the little pool. Works great!

Nothing like a little pool to keep them entertained!

Summer is nice isn't it? Beats that 40 days of rain we had!! HA HA
