Wednesday

Well, last night our fence lizard laid ELEVEN eggs. :th When my husband caught this thing he just thought it was a big lizard....nope, preggers.

Going to the park today if the rain holds off, have to go by the library to return books. Made bread this morning and got the pieces cut out for a new bag, John Deere. Kids wanted to go play in the pool again so I put it away for now.

We are getting things together for our beach trip next weekend. I am mentally preparing myself for a week with my family....fun but nerve wracking sometimes. My mom is one of those people that would rather be right than happy. Causes a lot of conflict, especially with Chad.

I'm feeling better about the property issue. I realize that there's nothing that I can do. Hard to let it go but I know I have to.

The garden is looking good, my lettuces are going crazy. Spinach looks good, cukes are getting bigger, starting to get little peppers, tomatoes are going to need to go on trellises soon, and my carrots look really good. My eggplant is still lagging behind and my basil is ssssssslllllllloooooowwwwwwly coming up. My cilantro is growing like a weed though. Potatoes are getting taller too! Gonna harvest some of the lettuce this weekend.

I am going to the poultry swap meet in Farmville this weekend to get some DE. Hopefully I won't come home with too much else, but we all know how that goes!!!

Friday

Had my BF over last night for dinner and bowling on the wii. My husband kicked our butts....again. Cooked a deer tenderloin with some rice and broccoli and fresh salad from my garden!

Tyler woke up with a bloody nose twice wednesday night and scared the bejeebers out of both of us. I think he just scratched the inside of it but it was really pouring. Scared him too, poor thing. DH gets nosebleeds sometimes so I woke him up and let "Mr. Paramedic in training" deal with it while I cleaned up the blood. Chad is on call again tonight so we will be hanging out at home. Hopefully I will be able to get some sewing projects finished.

I made a John Deere tote bag last night and got most of another patchwork one done. I also have to design one for my BF's daughter. She picked some fabric from my stash last night and wants me to make her a little purse (she's 4). Kids had a good time playing last night but we were all exhausted.

I am bracing myself for tomorrow's swap meet. Chad wants ducks and we have been discussing the possibility of getting some quail. We have enough lumber to build a small pen if need be this weekend so we will see what we end up coming home with. I am going to get DE for the chickens and garden as well. We are hoping to get the kids up early and get there before all the good stuff is gone!

Sorry to disappoint, but I only came home with the DE. We almost picked up some quail, though.

We decided to wait until we can get some more pallets from Chad's work and build some housing and then, get this, my husband wants to order meat chickens, jumbo coturnix quail, ducks, and he also wants to get some meat rabbits to breed. My husband, excuse me, who are you and what have you done with my husband?

So the rest of our weekend did not go as smoothly. Chad's grandmother has alzheimer's and is in an assisted living facility. We got a phone call from her power of attorney at 11pm Saturday night and she had fallen. One of the nurses found her on the floor. She doesn't remember how she fell. She said she felt fine, nothing was hurting so we got up Sunday morning and I stayed in the car with the kids (just in case she really was hurt) and Chad went in to check her out. He told the nurses that she was not to do anything and they needed to monitor her all day. We get a call at 9:30 last night and she had fallen again. This time they had called an ambulance to take her to the hospital to run some tests and check her out. Problem is that they told hubby to go to the wrong hospital. :somad
So he finally meets up with her at the right hospital and doesn't get home until 4am. So he went to work today with no sleep (he usually leaves the house around 5-5:30 so he just stayed up).

Now as the day goes on we are getting more details about how yesterday unfolded. Come to find out her crazy sister came and got her yesterday at 2 and took her to a birthday party and didn't bring her back until 8!!! She was exhausted and should never have been allowed to leave the facility in the first place. They were supposed to be monitoring her after the fall. So now her POA wants to move her to another facility closer to her home (and honestly, closer to us) but she wants to move her this weekend and we are supposed to leave for the beach on saturday morning for a week. :rant

On a more positive note, my birthday is the 18th and my husband has lined up a fishing trip for me out in the gulf stream!!! Hopefully I will catch something good and not make a fool out of myself in the process!

Sorry to hear about Chad's grandmother.

But excited to hear about the quail, meat birds, rabbits and ducks!!! Your place will look like my place then!! I have them all and love raising all of them. My meat birds are a little over 5 weeks, and I just ordered a new bunch coming on July 7. One rabbit due on the 10th, another at the end of the month. (One with babes at her side right now.)

Do you have an incubator? You will need one for quail as they don't set on thier own eggs. I' happy for you!!

No we don't have an incubator yet, saving up for a good one with a turner in it. We want to hatch some of our mutt chickens too.....can you picture a Buff black tailed Japanese bantam crossed with a Barred rock or a red sex link or an EE? I'm so curious I could bust!

I made Chad go to bed immediately after dinner. He was so exhausted. I made homemade pizza and picked some salad from the garden for dinner. He was fat and happy when he got into bed, poor thing.

We need to get some housing built for every one of our new animals to come! He is going to get some more pallets from work and we'll need to get more wire.

Don't know for certain, but I heard that if you cross a brown egg layer with a blue egg layer--you get olive eggs. the mom with the darker the brown egg --makes a deeper olive colour. I want to try a mix like that too! Does that make sense?

Oh, and I just bought the Brinsea eco20 It was on sale. I like all the features it had.
