Lori, all of the sewing projects look great. I have sewing envy. I would love to be able to just sew for a week straight. Never enough time in the day.
Fishing for your birthday sound like fun. Some down time is always appreciated. I am prepping for vacation too. Lots to do and I just can wait to leave.
What are you doing with your garden while you go?? I am having to rely on a couple friends but am a little nervous about leaving it.
I am crossing my fingers that my neighbor will keep an eye on things for me. He has a nice garden and he usually takes care of our animals for us when we go away for a weekend but this is the first time we'll ever be gone for a week straight. I am very nervous about the animals and the garden but there's nothing I can do about it now.
He has said that he is planning his entire menu this week around eggs! Our agreement is that whenever we are gone he can keep all the eggs from the hen house. I told him a couple of days ago to brace himself because I am getting anywhere from 6 to 9 a day. Hope he likes eggs!
We have another friend that will be coming in the middle of the week to look after all things amphibian/reptile. He is a lizard person so he knows the deal.
I have 4 loads of laundry on the line and my refrigerator is bare! I have 2 dozen eggs that I'm taking with me. I was going to bake some bread but I think it will just be easier to deal with store bought for a week....yuck.
I still have to pack and both kids are still sniffling. I hope that the rain holds off long enough for the kids to play outside and get good and tired tonight so that we can all go to bed early.
Chad is getting the oil changed in the car this afternoon and buying 3 dozen crickets. I made a double batch of pumpkin pancakes last night and put them in the freezer so I can heat them up and just let everyone eat in the car. Only problem was I had to beat off the kids to get them in the freezer! I finally gave in and let them have a few.
Lori, I just looke dat the photos of what you've been creating and was going through them rather quickly. I came across the one of your little girl and had to go back because I couldn't figure out how you got my daughter on there. LOL My baby is a bit younger (1 1/2) but looks very similar to your darling. Cute dress you made there. All that gathering would have been a nightmare for me as I am a beginner at the sewing machine (I really dislike gathering ATM). After looking at it again I see it is smocked, right? After I get a bit more experience under my belt, I'd like to try that some time.
Oh honey, I cheated! I bought it like that from the store, sewed it down the back and attached all the ribbon! My mom has done smocking before but i have never attempted it.
Tuesday
At the beach, having a great time. It is pouring down rain today so we are all just resting up. Went fishing with MIL's boyfriend yesterday in the intracoastal waterway and caught tons of fish--pinfish, croaker, spot, sharks, I caught a drum, some sea bass, a sheepshead. We had a really good time. The kids have been swimming and building sand sculptures (dragons, sea monsters, alligators--my brother has a knack for it). We don't do sand castles around here, they are too boring!
I'll post pictures at the end of the week....we have some really good ones. Last night we had a seafood feast. We splurged and bought crab legs, shrimp, salmon, scallops, and local veggies and made kabobs, and steamed some of the shrimp and crablegs, and did the salmon on the grill---I highly recommend Emeril Lagasse's Bayou blast seasoning. It was soooooo good. So much better than going to a restaurant. Chad's mom came over after work and we stuffed her full of crablegs, her favorite. We all had a wonderful time and sat around talking for a while with some coffee. 12 of us all in all.
Well, I'll catch up on all the journals now....see what kind of trouble everyone is in lately I've missed everyone in the last few days, you all are like my second family and I miss you when I'm gone!
Well, I'm home. We got back Saturday and collapsed. Sunday we had to do grocery shopping and go to the pet store for crickets and hamster food, then we came home and tended to the animals, cleaned the chicken coop out and discovered that we have a broody hen...I put 4 eggs under her today so we'll see what happens. Cleaned out the rabbit hutch and dog pens, mowed the entire yard....it was a jungle. We had to rake the grass clippings to put in the compost pile so it wouldn't kill the grass, cleaned the house, went throught the mound of mail and bills YUCK! Then sunday night we went to visit Nanny (chad's grandma) in her new home. Come to find out we are related to the gentleman that she is living with. They only have 2 patients in their home and they have beautiful property. Old cabins, lots of antiques, 3 dogs and they have 2 children as well. She seems to be settling in pretty well after a week. April and Tony say that she is enjoying sitting on the front porch and watching the birds and other wildlife. I have a lot of reading to do today after seeing the journals! I will catch you all up on my vacation and post some pics later on. Good to be back home though!
