That was Lil' Bit, my barn cat  She is very inquisitive (read nosey) and wants to be touched constantly. She is also an excellent mouser and brings me "surprises" all the time!

I only wanted 6 ducks but had to order 10 to get them shipped so we'll see what happens when hubby sees the order. :hu

I got 3 chocolate females, 1 chocolate male, 3 black females, 1 black male and 2 fawn & white straight run.

Ended up taking the kids to the park instead of the movies cause Maddie pooped as we were walking out the door and by the time I got her cleaned up and got the kids in the car we would have been late. Now I'm doing laundry cause it is in the 90s outside.

tonight we are going to the rescue squad building. Chad has truck checks and they are also doing helicopter training tonight so he wants the kids to come see it up close, cool huh?

Anyway, hope everyone liked the pics. I still don't know what to do about the chickens, I want to get some more but still don't know what breed I want to try. I am leaning towards Golden Laced Wyandottes or maybe Buckeyes but I may have to wait until spring. There is also a chicken swap this saturday so who knows what I may come home with :D

Great pics!

I love the runner ducks!

ETA: If you go to the swap - do you have an area for quarantine? One of my friends lost her entire flock last year because she did not quarantine and brought home some disease from a chicken swap.

I usually don't buy anything from swaps for that reason. If need be we can slap together another crate coop. I may see if anyone has any chicks. Can I put the ducks and chicks together in the brooder?

I like your duck house. I'm wanting to make something similar before winter. I also need a place for my maturing ducks to lay their eggs. :)

The paint job looks quite nice! I like the half square house for your mamma hen. I should make one of those, it looks really nice, enough room for her to walk around on fresh grass and easy moving.

You better post pictures of your runners! My favorite duck breed is the Muscovy but the Runners are up next, and black and chocolate? How cool is that. I have one fawn/white right now, I think I like the solid colors more. :p

Wednesday

Well, today I got up and moving and I am trying to make a point of sitting down and teaching my children something new every day. Today we got out the jumbo legos and worked on comparisons, counting, basic addition and subtraction for Tyler and finding colors and shapes and counting for Maddie. Then we went outside and hung up 3 loads of laundry and then got out Tyler's gator and Maddie's stroller and went for a walk. Picked a few late wild blackberries down the road and walked back home. We were all so sweaty by the time we got back we went inside, got our bathingsuits on, and jumped in the baby pool! Yes, even me!

Watered the garden and let the kids pick all the tomatoes, cukes, and a few beans that were ready. Then played on the playground and went inside to eat lunch.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but my house smells fabulous right now. I have a loaf of bread in the oven and homemade pizza sauce on the stovetop for homemade pizza this evening. Chad has had a lot of big wigs at work lately and has had to work late every day. Lots of overtime!!! We need it right now. Also good news, looks like Va has extended the late goose/duck hunting season from the middle of February to the middle of March. What does that mean? An extra month of goose/duck hunts for us to guide.....more extra money. Woo Hoo!

He has a lot of bills to pay off from where they got the company up and running so it looks like we'll have enough to pay off the company credit card and buy some new equipment.

Ours was painted battleship gray! My shed has been barn red with white trim for 5 yrs now and my hubby has been bugging me to paint everything to match for a while now. He came home with 2 gallons of paint one day and I said "well, I guess we're painting everything, huh?"

I had to agree with him, though, it really does look better. The kids had a good time "helping" too! :D
