Sunday
Well, this has been a crazy weekend! We tried to camp out Saturday night after running around in town all day getting crickets and groceries. We were all exhausted but came home and set up the tent, built a fire, then Chad came home from hunting, roasted hot dogs on the fire and had fresh blueberries and s'mores for dessert. Let the kids run around until dark and put on our jammies, got into the tent, and listened to the neighbor's chihuahua bark for an hour until we finally said, "okay, everyone in the house" (it was 10 pm). Took the kids to play mini golf for the first time this afternoon and then came home and got to my checklist.
1. Finish gate on the duck pen. Check
2. Put pool in duck pen and build surround. Check
3. Clean out duck house and move brahma chicks to big coop. Check
4. clean out duck brooder and move ducks to permanent pen and set up heat lamp, food, water, etc. Check
5. check on broody hen. ended up moving her to chicken run cause she's down to 2 eggs from 6. we suspect a snake. check
6. move quail into triangle tractor coop and clean out quail hutch. check
7. clean up front porch check
8. sweep house check
9. breathe check
It's been a loooooooong day. Everyone seems happy. I'm on the front porch now with the kids who are playing with play doh (I've banished it from the house)
Chad has a hunt tomorrow so he has left to go scouting to see where the geese are. I made a blueberry streusel cake for everyone for Saturday's hunt and got a $20 tip! Guess I'll be making that again. I make everything with whole wheat flour and it tastes so different to people that are used to white flour that I usually get a good reaction.
I don't know if I'm making something for tomorrow now that I think about it, guess I need to get in the kitchen
I took some pics of the ducks in their new pen and I'll post those this week. They really seem to like it, much better than the baby pool, I'm sure Maggie will be happy to sleep in the house again too. We'll see how the brahmas do in the big coop. The big chickens are going to sleep outside in the run and it should be warm enough that they will be fine. I'm hoping that brahmas will learn to go in there cause it was a bear getting them in tonight for the first time.
