Amys Spicy Potato Wedgesmy good friend Amy passed on this one. I had thought only packaged seasoning mixes offered pizzazz for roasted potatoesuntil I had theseout of this world! You could have a container of the spice mixture ready in the pantry for later use.

3 pounds potatoes, cut into wedges or chunks
cup vegetable oil
1 T chili powder
2 t onion powder
2 t garlic salt
1 t sugar
1 t paprika
t salt (optional)
- t cayenne, based on your desire for hotness

Mix all dry ingredients together. Dump potatoes in a plastic bag, drizzle with oil and then sprinkle with dry seasoning. Shake until well coated. Bake at 400 for 30-35 min. Enjoy!

Thanks, me&thegals! That looks like a definite keeper! I plan to put it in small canning jars for the pantry and use it for other veggies besides potatoes.. I think it will make a great addition to the food baskets I make up for the holidays.

Amy's Spice courtesy of me&thegals
1 T chili powder
2 t onion powder
2 t garlic salt
1 t sugar
1 t paprika
3/4 t salt (optional)
1/4 - 1/2 t cayenne, based on your desire for hotness

Mix ingredients in jar and add a card to jar with instructions.

Write on the card attached to the jar:
In a large bowl or bag, add to contents:

1/4 cup vegetable oil
3 1/2 pounds wedged potatoes, or other veggies

Mix well. Bake at 400 for 30-35 min or until veggies are fork tender.

I used to make the instant oatmeal in packets(snack sized baggies) to take camping. Now I'm going to make them for our emergency supplies.

I do mine a bit different though:

Instant oatmeal packets

3 C. quick oats
8snack sized baggies

Put 1 C. oats in blender, whirl on high until powdery. Into each baggie, put 1/4C.unpowdered oats, 2.powdered oats. Seal.

For flavored oatmeal packets add:

Apple cinnamon:Add 1T.sugar,1/4t.cinnamon,2T.chopped dried apples(or any other type of dried fruit)

Sweetened oatmeal: 1T. sugar(I use brown)

Cinnamon spice:1T. sugar,1/4t.cinn., 1/8t.nutmeg

raisins and brown sugar: 1T.brown sugar, 1T. raisins

Wheatgerm:2T. wheatgerm

To serve: Empty baggie into bowl. Add 3/4C.boiling water, stir, let stand for two min. For thicker oatmeal use less water, thinner, more water.

I usually double the packets for older kids and adults.

wow! Great posts!

One thing I love about all this is that you get the convenience foods without the price and health issues. Don't we all want super-fast food sometimes?

I love making my own convenience foods. I have my regulars--and they are definitely healthier for you.

And it sure explains why I had trouble finding "convenience foods" in my pantry for that other thread...

Just popping in for a sec to say that I have me&thegals' potato wedges recipe cooking in the oven right now, and one of the potato pieces was accidentally cut too thin and thus got done early and so of course being the cook I had to taste it to see if it was safe to let the family eat <g>... and BOY those are good!

Thanks so much for the recipe!

Pat, just waiting for the others to get done so we can eat
