It is too an ad, Monsanto pays money and they mention them as 'contributors'. It's an ad. I've stopped supporting PBS completely because of those ads. Watch This Old House and tell me there's no Ford commercials running at the beginning of the show.

We were actually talking about NPR, so I don't know about PBS. I mean it is not an ad in the sense that Monsanto/WM/whoever have no say over what the on-air blurb is. NPR just says basically "Funding from ___________". It's definitely recognition but not quite the same as XYZ company getting their own paid slot with their own message.

NPR is the national organization of Public Broudcasting. In Miss. the name was changed from MPBS to MPR a while back.

Although NPR & the state organization don't run commercials that I can remember, they do announce the names of their sponsors, many times with a tagline for the organization. Same thing really, advertising for dollars given.

Advertising is broadcast to us in very very sneaky ways.

Whenever I hear/see a sneaky ad, I think of the scene from They Live, when Roddy puts on the shades & sees all the messages. Obey. Conform. Consume.

I thought some of you might find this interesting. Granted, the "interviewer" is a company that sells non GMO foods, so there is a bias there, but I found the interview interesting nonetheless.

Another interesting article. Good point abi. The whole point of making hybrid & crossbreeding was to diversify the available plant species, yeah? More types, not less.

What really scares me is the terminator type technology. Say that three times fast...

Anyways, if plants in the wild or in home cultivation get polluted... um cross-pollinated with a gene to prevent seed germination... Can you say widespread famine? Can you also say "If you pay us enough, we'll give you more modified seed that will be sure to grow?"

Money money money MOnnn-EY!

ETA: Sally, I love that!!!

Hee hee, I wish I could make it bigger. It says at the bottom: "from the makers who brought you: pcbs, dioxin and agent orange" but you cant see the "from the makers of..."

Anyhoo, it gets the point across.
