SOme very large corporations are clearly in violation of anti-trust laws and as such, free market advocates should be advocating for their break up. But, they don't.
Well you don't solve problems like Monsanto with more regulation. Who do you think worked with the government to write the current laws? That's right... "industry professionals" aka the people who benefit most from keeping upstart companies from competing on any level.

Of course, when you call for deregulation, you end up with some half-a$$ed mucked up mess and people cry "see? deregulation doesn't work!" when there never was real deregulation in the first place.
So what is your suggestion?

What are you people talking about? Didn't you hear the commercial on National Public Radio telling us how Monsanto is creating sustainable methods of farming to save us all?
I listen to NPR a lot. Was it a special they had or a report? I've never heard an actual commercial on NPR except the give us money so we can stay on the air commercials.
It was an actual commercial. I was pretty disgusted with NPR for taking money for that bit of drivel.

Not to act like there are only 2 topics today, but NPR has had "ad space" for Wal-Mart, too. I remember saying quite loudly "Huh? You have GOT to be kidding!" This was around the same time there were a lot of WPR or NPR programs on Wal-Mart's social evils. :)

I would think that the average NPR listener is not much of a Wal-Mart shopper and is decidedly a Monsanto-hater! I would think!

I've gotten so I listen to them quite a lot. Besides news items they have all those little human interest kind of stories. They had some guy on yesterday that wrote a book cataloging the top 100 most important life forms on earth. Makes me want to read and learn. Wish I had more time.

Well, that would feed into my husband's belief that NPR is grossly biased. :)

and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation!

What I appreciate is that no matter who they are running "air time" for, they still present both sides of issues involving those companies.

I'm going to have to listen more closely. I have never heard a paid advertisement on NPR. Unless you're talking about those blurbs that go "We would like to thank such an such for their generous donation, without money from listeners like you we could not operate" Is that what you're talking about?

Yes. It's NOT an ad, but it is "air time" recognizing contributors.
