I hear you loud and clear. BUT DO NOT go overboard.

Take care of the problem and let it be....seriously, shoot the dog, (as I would and have done) and dispose of yourself.

Done deal, dog gone and your animals are safe.

No need to ever make it more than needed. Obviously the man doesn't care right? So "cleaning up the dead dog" is only going to cause more problems than EVER NEEDED.

Just do what you must and let it go.

I do that all the time.... :)

Lucky for me, no fee to drop off a dog. Had a nice lab visiting, pup almost, but I was told the neighbor way over on the other roads didn't care if it was loose. I caught it easily, loaded it in the car and off to the pound where they took it......done deal and over.
So if you can take it and want too, then fine. If not, shoot and be done and don't drag it out any further.

If anyone asks, you don't know a thing....loose dogs always evidently disappear..HA HA HA

Well that dog won't be coming around here for a while. See we have this "invisible fence" that our dog WILL NOT cross if her life depended on it because it brings with it a very cruel zap that lasts a full 30 seconds unless you get back on the property.
The dog came back to get another bird and I called her to me and put my dogs collar on her. My dog cannot reach the chicken pens with this collar on, but the neighbors dog tried...Well she booked it home as fast as she could run while yelping and being shocked into oblivion. I followed her home and took the collar off her to put back on my dog. That dog will NOT feel good for a least a couple of days...and when she comes back she's getting it again. My neighbor didn't say anything about it but I could tell he wasn't impressed this time. Maybe he will save us both some trouble and start tying his dog. I told him in no uncertain terms this morning that he is lucky I don't own a gun cause his dog wouldn't have had a chance to book it home.
And I told him I don't want her anywhere near my place anymore, and will make sure she doesn't enjoy coming over anymore. Gosh, it was so bad I tried unplugging the unit from the wall to stop it from zapping but it doesn't stop until 30 seconds are up period. She made it home in that 30 seconds...

I hear you on wanting to shoot the neighbors dog! Mine has a rotweiller mix and it circles my coop and goes after my kids. I want to shoot the dog in the worst way! But, so far it has not actually attacked. We live right next door to them so we can not shot and hide it quick enough because they are always home. They just let the dog run loose off its chain. My DH will not man up and go tell them to keep it off our property or it will be gone. When I have my CCW and start carrying on a regular basis they better hope the dog does not come near me!! But I KNOW that it will cause us a ton of headache with the neighbor because they will be spiteful!
Oh that is scary! This dog is really great with kids. Our friends live next door to someone with two rotties that I would hate to see get loose. They keep the penned really well but they are really scary! What is with DH's not being man enough???? Ugh!

Even the nicest neighbors can break bad on you about something like this, Morel. I would definitely kill the dog. I would do it more subtley, though. Gun shots can be heard, witnesses too many. A nice doggy treat of "granola bar" hand fed to poochy is merely a kindness from one neighbor to another. ;)

A tastey bar of One Bite rat poison does wonders and acts very quickly. They just bleed out internally....not really painful, merely like having a full belly after a big meal. The main ingredient is warfarin...or coumadin, for all you folks on blood thinners! :p

I've taken care of humans who have bled to death internally and they never really complain of pain, just restlessness for a little while, then they sleep and don't wake up. I know, I know....it all sounds so morbid, but I've gotten the chance to study this death thingy up close and personal for quite awhile.

And I would feed one to every other dog they acquire until they get the idea that their dogs just can't seem to survive around there.

Interesting...I always thought that poisoning would cause days and days of agony and cruelty for an animal. I'm hoping this one learns on 30 second shots of cruelty...I may have to resort to the granola idea...

ETA: I've actually shot my neighbor's dog before and it can get a little messy what with the police showing up and all! ;)
Interesting...I always thought poisoning caused days of terrible pain to a dog, until they died. Right now I am going to try the 30 second shots of cruelty and see what happens...but may have to resort to granola....

THAT was a funny story!!!! I've seen my own dog hit the fence on the line and it was pitiful and sad.....and she crouched down and couldn't move! I had to drag the poor dear off the line!

Today, Toby the roo hit the cow's fence and went off like a firecracker....had to give a chuckle! At least I know the fence is working!

VERY clever tactics, Morel! I like your style and ingenuity! :D

PS: My mother's cat got into the One Bite and just layed around acting dozy, bled from the anus and died quietly. No signs of distress or pain. By the time they are bleeding, its too late to give the Vit. K to counteract it.

FYI, if your dog eats some, giving hydrogen peroxide immediately will cause him to throw up his stomach contents and everything he has eaten for the last month!!!

What about a paintball gun?? Freeze the paintballs...and pop it in the bum! It will bruise like heck...and mark the dog as an intruder. Pick a flashy color..that really shows up on the dog. Hot Pink works well. Its a painfull reminder for the dog..and a subtle reminder for the owner.

Yup DD's boyfriend brought me over his paintball gun yesterday. I haven't seen the dog yet to use it on her...but i can guarrantee you that if I can get that collar on her a couple more times she won't feel safe ANYWHERE outside her own home ;)
I'm sure she has been sticking very close to my neighbor lately! For the times I can't get the collar on her she will definitely get a bruising with the paintball gun...

My kids are still laughing over the sight of that dog running across the yard like it was having an epileptic fit and howling all the while. I can't imagine how long 30 seconds can feel when the pain is excrutiating!

Lost power last night, a wind storm blew through. Woke up this morning to a very quiet house:>) And had to make coffee the old fashioned way. I love my propane stove!
Had to bring the chicks in at midnight last night, it got down to freezing, so they are tucked in beside the woodstove in rubbermaid containers. It's actually a snowstorm out there right now! Ahhh, summer summer where art thou????
