I definitely do NOT have a back 40. I have a back YARD that is divided in parts, and the part that has been let go wild for 20 years is the back 40 ! It's more impressive than saying "the side of my house". And not quite as cumbersome as saying "My back yard is shaped like an L, it is the bottom of the L, and measures 30 x 50, so it's not like just a strip of land between me and my neighbor's house."

'sides, it makes me sound like I am a farmer like you guys are. Not a wannabe.

LOL, Ldychef2k . . . I don't have a real back 40 either (kinda wish I did though). It is more like the back acre for us. We just like the ring of it and it seemed oddly the natural thing to call it. It is our wild, untended field.

Hahaha... No that is my brother (I'm only 20 and he is 14!)

Kevin was none to pleased to be helping with the fencing, tomorrow he goes off to Toronto for the last week of the summer to stay with my dad at the work appartment. Pat, who no doubt has seen buck fence a lot (and I'm sure most of you!) knows that most times it is wired together. I chose to buy new wood for most of it and nail it together instead. This is my solution to the inability to sink posts using an auger or post pounder. My upper field and riding ring I am digging by hand (yipee...)

Here is another photo from the back looking from the bottom field... In the distance you can see some of the posts have been dug and tamped for the top field. The end section is supported on the back with a rail nailed diagonally... all sections will be supported like this eventually but for now they are fine.

Lupin, did you say where you got the wood for the fence?

I took on "the Mountian" today again. Third time is a charm. It felt a tiny bit easier this time, but it still kicked my arse! :th

As I decended a Mt. biker flew by me and said quickly to me "two more of us". Then he shouted "HIKER!!!!" He called me a hiker!!! That is the nicest thing anyone could call me right now! Wow, I feel so accomplished! In my mind I thought, "thank God he didn't scream "walking lady!". :clap

Nine more miles under my belt tonight!
:woot

I don't think so... The wood came from a local cedar mill/dealer called Lutes Cedar & Lumber (lutescedar.com). They are very reasonably priced, and have been so good with keeping up with our orders! ... Even late in the season they can usually accomodate us. This is our second year buying from them, next year we have more buck fence to put up for the goats so they will have more orders coming in from us...

They sell their wood posts to the TSC stores, and I pay half of what one would pay at the TSC store straight from the mill.

My picket fence stuffs came from them too.

ETA: Today I actually finished the fence line that I was working on there, now I have to put together the buck fence that will divide up the field and nearly all the buck fence on that pasture should be finished! I'll just have t-posts to pound in and a bunch of wood posts to dig in and then I'll be able to hook up the electric, and get the gates up. BTW, I've figured out an awesome way to attach my gates to my buck fence without having to dig :D:D:D:D It involves a 4" pole, a couple 2x4s, and some nails... bahaha... You will all see when it is done!
