Forgot about the superglue trick. I have it in my first aid kit. I've heard about people using it on horses.

I'm doing much better. My knee is healing up quite well, and my doctor figures that in another month, he can release me. I wish there was some way you could get your knee taken care of. I feel so bad for you having to live w/all that. :hugs

My kid was unbearably mean to me last week. It had been coming to a head, arguing for 8-10-12 hours a day over schoolwork, taking 2 hours in the bathroom, being mean, reminding him to play with his service dog, etc. Yes, I understand his seizures are increasing in type and frequency but when I spend most of my days in tears, something's gotta change.

Done with homeschooling.

Interviewed with local high school on Monday. Unusual circumstance so they are taking a week to decide whether they can take him or not. Interviewed with a private school today; same thing. Until they make a decision, homeschooling consists of watching non-fiction DVDs on math, history, science and so forth.

And hubby's insurance denied autism therapy: pt and ot. BUT their online info says they do. ARGH.

We signed up for a free advocate so she's going to help but I can't find her business card to send her an e-mail. Left her a voice mail.

I haven't had more than a couple of hours to myself in many many years. Come to think of it, it's been since before he was born. I really love my child but I need a break. A quiet house. Time to think, or to get some work done without a hundred interruptions. Time to reconnect.

Don't hate me or judge me or give me religious quotes. I had to voice it somewhere.

From what I have read and experienced with a family member's situation, you are not alone in the way you are feeling. I believe it is quite common for a parent under these circumstances. I hope that a school situation is opened up to you and that the advocate is able to get you what you need. :hugs

I won't judge you. I don't know of any place in the Bible that says you have to spend 24/7 w/your child. Everyone needs a break. Jesus even told His disciples at one point to come apart and rest for awhile.

noone has ANY right to judge you or say anything even remotly of the sort, this is NOT an easy situation and it sounds like youve done everything you can in the best interest of this child and his special needs and your at the end of your rope...
which means the only way you can continue to help him is lok for other options...
if getting him into public/private schooling and out of your hair for a few hours every day will help you keep your sanity, then thats what NEEDS to be done!
*HUGS*

dont let anyone ever make you feel bad about the desicions you have to make for your family! your doing eveyrthing you can to give him everything he needs and sometimes...it needs to come form an outside source!

hang in there
you are right. everyone needs to vent and have quiet time. you can't be all to everyone for 24/7 for years. it just can't be like that.
hope it all works out for you!

Thanks for the non-secular words of support.

Kid starts school next week ... one class a day. Just to see. Will only give me an hour a day but hey, that's more than I have now! And since his seizures are increasing, he has a 3-day hospital stay scheduled for end of April. Could be contributing to his mood swings.

Five baby chicks hatched last Saturday thru Sunday. She started with 5 eggs and ended with 5 chicks. What a good silkie mama! I love watching them follow her, and listen to her doing the "food call". Wonderful smart creatures. Have another broody hen who's got another 8 days before her 5 eggs hatch.

Finished the buck (boy goat) pen. Has a small chicken area. Goats have 4 x the space they have now. Truck topper in the middle with non-slip stickers on it (to help prevent hooves slipping). Still need to put in another pallet or two for them to walk on, especially when it gets soggy there. Just today finished the hay lean-to (except for the tin roofing). We have 2 new small bantam chicken houses and the bantam chicken run is almost done. About half the herb boxes are ready for soil and planting.

Started filling the veggie raised bed garden with soil. Concentrating on the places that I need to plant now: the brassicas. Have planted: 8 red cabbage, 8 green savoy cabbage, 4 buttercrunch lettuce. The beds are ready for 8 cauliflower and 8 broccoli. Also have 3 4x8 beds ready for strawberries. Still need to start tomato seeds and more ... sssooooo far behind!

I've gardened a lot in the past, just getting my feet wet, so to speak. Trying to figure out how to do things. I've always failed at potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and onions. So ...

My question: Now that I've transplanted the brassicas seedlings, do I need to mulch? How do I keep them from freezing? Does it even matter if it freezes again? We have another 2 months of possible snow and freezing rain... all the way up to the end of May. It's only March 15. I don't want to fail at these again.

How soon can i get the strawberries in? The potatoes?

Hi mykids :)

First of all, huge support for you as a mom. My kids are "normal" and healthy, and I still cherish time away from them from time to time. A child with extra needs would seem to go with a mom with need for more alone time. I hope the new schooling situation goes better!

As for brassicas, they're tough little buggers. If you put them out as hardy seedlings (4-5 weeks old), they should be able to take slight freezes. If you're worried, cover with light straw or floating row covers.

I'm not sure on strawberries, but I'd think they could get planted in April or May. Potatoes we plant around Good Friday. Really, though, we've had potato plants get nipped by frost, die back a bit and then keep right on going. Good luck!

ive always been told a little bit of a cold snap actually make brassicas and lettuce sweeter :D as long as they dont feeze solid they should be fine and if youve got a heavy cold comming you can always cover them with a plastic sheet (even a trashbag in a pinch) just to keep any snow ect off them.
