I really need to get some hooves done too...it never ends, lol. But, at least I've got 36 less hooves to trim now! We got a cool front this afternoon. Temp dropped 10 degrees in about 15 minutes. Yay!

We should do the sheep but they don't seem to grow as fast as the goats hooves. So it won't kill them to wait until it's less muddy! 36 less hooves.. wow, that's a lot of hooves!

We're trying to figure out where to put everyone when the snow and mud ease up... lots of shuffling...

It's pouring, it's seriously muddy right now and I'm ready for real spring, like, not mud season spring! Ew!

DH is going to finish the first coat of paint in the living room today, yay!

Vicious wild wind today. It's melted enough that there are bare patches of lawn showing through the ice/snow pack. Big ol' hawk circling. The first one I've seen this season. In spite of it, I'm leaving the flock out to free range. They desperately need it after being cooped up all winter, and with the run being so wet. I'd rather they have a sopping wet yard to roam than a sopping wet run!

It's super windy today, and cold!

So, odd question... is horse slaughter legal in the US? I am not slaughtering any horses, lol. But I know through the gossip chain of someone who is planning on it. Is it my own personal level of discomfort showing, or is this something I call someone about? I mean... it's a mean stallion so I don't want him. But eating horses freaks me out... but maybe it's just better than the alternative? I wish my DH would stop telling me stories like this, lol.

Whether it's legal or not... If the horse can't be rehabbed, it would be better to euthanize him than to continue housing and feeding him with the very real risk that he could seriously harm an other horse or the persons involved in his care. As for euthanizing, a clean shot to the head would be as merciful as any other means. As for what to do after the fact? Would it be better to hire heavy equipment to dig a hole to bury him, or actually put that meat to useful purpose??? I have no answers. But, can ask lots of questions!

Right, I think he could be rehabbed is the thing. He has never been trained or even worked with on a lunge line, he is only 6. If he was castrated he might be ok. I think DH could evaluate him and probably could get him to a workable state but heck, we have enough issues without taking that on lol. I think the guy won't surrender him to a rescue because they'll try to get his other animals too. That's my guess anyway. I don't know... I could call a rescue but we've tried that and nothing happened... I hate knowing about these things! Ugh!

Given this information, I take back what I said previously. It's not the horse's fault that he's not people friendly if no one has taken the time to work with him. Only 6 years old, and not gelded? Not breeder material? What is the owner thinking? To kill an animal simply b/c one doesn't know how to or doesn't have the energy to invest in the care and training... some folks shouldn't have animals.
