There is a revulsion in this country on eating horse meat. Since this idiot has not castrated or trained this horse, why not get some good out of it? he could take it to a sale and get maybe 200-300 for it.
Someone came and picked the horse up today. She has other horses, who knows what she'll do with it but at least I won't have to know about it.
And no, he shouldn't have animals. Unfortunately the police feel he takes ok enough care of them that he won't lose them (not sure why they came to that conclusion but they did).
DH and I are in planning mode... we need to invest in some fencing. I want to build a proper dry lot for winter and mud season that we could plow and clean easily (I have electronet for nice weather). He needs permanent pig pens for winter and mud season as well. And we want to fence the border of our property with the neighbors with the wandering dogs. I don't think they'll go through the effort to go around it, they just hop the stone wall through the woods between our houses. We'll fence the whole property eventually... but, money.
DH and I also had a chat about goats. Since he does all the shots, hoof trimmings, etc. I asked him what direction we should go in and he really would prefer to keep Nigerians (and small minis, Patty is a Nigerian sized mini!) And he said he'd rather have 3 nigies than 1 full size goat. Plus small goats are easier with kids so I might be going that direction, which means (in a year or two) I could increase my herd plus they're the same size as my sheep so that helps lol. We'll see. Getting Lilly back Thursday!!
Sounds like changes are a coming! That's a good thing. I think you're right that keeping smaller goats makes perfect sense right now - especially since you're going to have little people around them. I'm excited for you to get Lilly back.
And if I have a big enough area they can live with my sheep and they'll be evenly matched size wise! And Nigerians are the only things that sell around here.
Yes I am excited to get her too! You know, I taught a lot of people (including kids who were NOT gentle!)how to milk on her and she just stands there patiently. Yup she's a keeper.
