We have a neighbor with a cockatoo (the big white crested bird), he keeps it outside so that we can all hear the constant screeching. Sounds like a metal rake going over concrete.
Another neighbor quite a distance away has peacocks, we know because we hear them.
Another neighbor raises and keeps fighting cocks. They are two houses over through the back yard. It's non stop crowing, when they are "on vacation" at their house. And no, Animal Control won't come and take them away, we already called, several times. Of course, if someone were to complain about us keeping too many chickens, they would probably be here in a New York minute to confiscate our birds and fine us to the hilt.

I'm just thankfull that no-one around here has guineas.

Thanks for the tale of Sleepless on the Farm. Please forgive we for laughing. and laughing... and laughing... Glad you finally some good rest.

Tell your drama queen she won the Academy Award already, so she can turn it down a notch. Now it's time to schedule a psych evaluation appt for myself. Cause I still want goats.

BTW- I checked the local Wally World for ---Organic milk--- and they were all Ultra Pasteurized too. That's too ridiculous. I didn't buy any. Gotta find it somewhere so I can make my own yogurt. Wish I'd had on some nice farm boots.

Oh my.

Cows, goats, ducks, guineas, pigs peafowl. I LOVE all the sounds they make, especially peafowl, so mythical and ethereal, a spooky enchanting sound to them. I guess I'm used to all those sounds, they don't bother me at all, and I thoroughly enjoy all of those animals.

HOWEVER - DOGS! HATE barking, I swear it is the most annoying noise EVER, and they are always getting in so much trouble! :barnie They are just not my thing.

BB, I hate barking dogs too! My dog is not allowed to bark more than a couple times in a row, unless she is on predator patrol. Neighbors have stupid yappy things that never ever shut up when they are outside. :barnie

I love peafowl sounds too!

We used to go riding past a place that had them....you could hear them all across the valley....kind of eerie and enchanting (perfect word Merle). I loved it.

quack of dawn.. hee hee hee

barking dogs. we dont have that here. when Ti barks i actually get up out of bed and tell him to "go see" and then he goes charging out there..its a thing of beauty.

murphysranch - dang girl.. you know i've run out there -- stone cold sober -- in my underpants, guns blazing, dogs at full tilt when i thought something was in the turkey house.. i could only imagine what would happen if i was cowboy drunk and tequila crazy when them guineas went off! golly..i imagine someone would be goin' to emergency and someone would be goin' to jail.....

and yeah.. the only reason those silly guineas are not in the pot is because we have a HUGE tick and flea problem.. not to mention that the stupid squash bugs denied me the pumpkin king crown once again..... so they stay. for now. but we are trying to find somewhere on the property to move them guineas

HOWEVER... man.... they are something. i'm wondering if its worse lately because they are pairing up???? the funny thing is ..they totally love hanging out with the turkeys! the first day we let them out they totally chased the turkeys. i almost changed TurkZilla's name to TurkPansy!

in other fun poultry news, i got over myself and got 10 meat chickens. normally they are way too creepy but i couldnt pass them by when i was in TSC. in 6 short weeks i'll be having fried chicken...whoot!

I agree, the guinea screaming is worth the price when ticks abound!
We had six guineas. Now we have two. The small, loud ones were delicious.
I think the two survivors are french guineas, they're much larger than my others were, and they for the most part stay on the ground. The littler ones liked to get on the roof and scream. Sometimes at 3am.

I cooked them in a sweet barbecue glaze with bacon crumbles and onions.
