i'm headed out - finally the frost/cold has broken and the suns a-shining!
i lost some things already in the ground but luckily most of it is just damage. and i think our grapes are goners which is very sad
:-(
anyway. onward and upward
Nibbles is doing great in her probationary role. actually she's milking really really well. i'm only milking her once a day and hopefully that will keep her going (i know some folks who only milk once a day).
things have calmed WAY down now that Nibbles is more relaxed and not screaming non-stop. and Vita is keeping order with all the goats.
the turkeys are ridiculous right now i'm and trying to figure out who is laying where and if anyone is really ready to set., hum.. crazy turkeys
I don't know how cold it got for you, but I'd leave the grapes in the ground a while. Maybe they'll recover. We get pretty cold here in California and the grapes get through it. As long as the roots didn't freeze, your plants might survive.
thanks FD - i think they plants will live... but wow they had tons of grape-lettes on them.... here's hopin'
NCL: its totally probationary... she wont be a blue badge/FTE (full time employee) until we do evals in 90 days. she'll get a 360* peer review.... and lets be honest, Vita is going to be VERY hard on her
I yelled at the bad neighbor today, more specifically, the neighbor's dog. OK fine. In truth, I yelled at that guy too. It was so bad that The Big Man came barrelin' out of the house and the good neighbors (with the 4H kids) called to make sure we were OK. Yikes. Now I'm so embarrassed.
You guessed it. Their dog was loose. The guineas were screaming a new song so I headed in that direction and my hard workin' farm dogs took off growlin' and snarlin'...and there was that dog hangin' out by our fence. Not in their yard and thankfully not on our side.
So I kindly "yoo-hoo'd" over to the bad neighbor and would he please come and get his adorable dog? OK I didn't really say that ....and about that time The Big Man came charging down the hill to find out what the hubbub was about.
Then I asked the neighbor to please do a better job of keeping track of his dog. OK I didn't exactly say that either... and in my fit of rage and swearing I may have blistered some of the bark off the nearby trees and our dogs were cowering behind The Big Man and whispering that "Mommy is scary."
I'm not entirely sure this was the best way to establish or maintain diplomatic relations with the bad neighbors but I think they understand our position now. Where's that darn survey guy, we need to put up our permanent fence. Soon. Apparently its needed mostly to keep me IN.
I don't blame you, if it were a case where (in my instance) the dog happened to get out by accident, fine. I can forgive and forget. (Unless there were any killings, then I may not forget.)
However dot dot dot, I can't stand a loose dog wandering about my property especially when I have my prized egg layers and such out and about.
We had this same problem earlier in the year. Sept the loose dog was loose in more than one way, if you get my drift! Now she is home with her suckling spawn. I suppose we will be dealling with loose dogS soon...GREAT.
Now this here little karma-peaceful-granola-gal has been eyeing guns for the first time in her life!! (But don't tell my ma!! )
OF-- I too have lost it with my neighbor about his dog, I have just had it up to here with unresponsibile dog owners.
Last year this guy would let his dogs off his property and never worry about what they were up to. Which included coming over to my place and scaring all my animals and also helping themselves to chicken dinner. On top of that our front yard is not fenced and my dogs are contained in the fenced back yard, but I always have to scoop poop in the front, now my DH idea is to just shoot the dogs, me.. well Iam not the dog shooting type so I call the sheriff and he tells me" if they are bothering us or our animals just shoot them, it is our right" so I decide to be the "good neighbor" and chat with this guy first, oh and did I mention that one day I opened my door to a growling snarling dog( same neighbors dog).Anyways I go trotting my behind over to nicely tell the guy to please keep his dogs home, long story --short--lots of loud voices and a couple of threats from this jerk I trot my hiny home and tell the hubbty-shoot at will-- never has come down to that the big dummy (as I so lovingly call him) decides to keep his dogs home, no problem since. But belive me all the neighbors know how we feel about keep control of their dogs.
We don't have issues like that but we do have to German Shepherds next who annoy me. Our backyard is fenced in but they come around to the front yard and use it as their bathroom. I have been known to get out of my car in the driveway and yell "Go poop in your own yard!!" One day the daughter of the neighbor across the street was picking up her kids and I didn't realize it. I shouted my usual and she started cracking up because she didn't see the dog at first.
When we were renting in a two family home, I opened my door one night to put the trash into the garage and was greeted by a huge Rottweiler that was growling and barking at me....on my own porch! Of course I didn't argue with him, I closed the door quickly and yelled at him, got very angry at being trapping in my own house by a stranger's dog late at night, grabbed the first thing that came to my hand and opened the door and hurled it at the dog, yelling at the top of my lungs.
He grabbed my husband's sneaker and took off and I never saw him...or it....again. Hubby was not pleased with me.
