the part about the sneaker. It is scary to open the door to a big dog, and really upsetting that it is on YOUR door step.
I guess we really should be mad at the owners not the dogs.

I really don't like people who can't keep their dogs at home! Maybe the bad neighbor got the point . . . . :fl

They had it coming....and you have been (politely) holding it in. It was time to let them know how you *really* feel!

Wish I could have been a squirrel in the trees!

When we moved to this house 6 years ago, the neighbor's dogs seemed to claim this place as home. It wasn't horrible...docile labs, but it got annoying. DH chased them off and after the 3rd time with the broom and yelling, they got the point. THen we got our dogs and they stayed away.

After being gone for a year, I'm finding that they are hanging around again. Its a crappy deal because the neighbor is a family friend. I told him I spend my days cleaning up his dogs' poop out of my yard, and also informed him we're putting up hot wire around the yard to teach the puppy to stay IN. (The new pup doesn't arrive til June) . He didn't seem to care. I did notice that the biggest lab was scared to death of the goat kids. It was too funny.....so I'm hoping that when Clyde gets bigger, he'll be able to team up with the Mastiff (who shall be named Emmett) and keep them off the property.

Free - whatcha think that owner thought when the dog brought back "just a shoe" hee hee hee i love that you threw it at him! ha!

PiGi - we had problems even with our "good" nieghbors.. we put the fear of dog into them and we've been able to keep things friendly.

but

their dogs stay home now. i'll never forget the horrible look on their 11 yo's face when their stupid dog was in our yard... our biggest dog chased their bad dog across the property and allllllmooooost had that little dog. their poor kid was standing there screaming for the dog. it was one of the only 2 times i couldnt get Ti stopped and honestly... whew... i'm glad he finally turned... whew! i think the kid, their dog, and their mom all peed their pants on that one. maybe me too
;-)

D - i think that poor squirrel had a heart attack at the language.....i saw something fall out of a tree just out of the corner of my eye
;-)

Javamama - dang! wish i'd known - we have someone schedule!

actually today we had an idea. this house came with one of those invisible fences. of course i tilled over the line so many times it wasnt useful (or necessary for us)...so we think we're going to give it to them neighbors if only out of our own defense (de-fence??).

i gave our dogs a huge breakfast so i'm going to take them out to "mark" the property line. i gave them a lot of eggs this is gonna be stinky

;-)

Ok in defence of the Rottie with one shoe...... Do you know how embarrassing it is to walk around to your neighbors with one muddy, slobbered on shoe and ask if it's theirs. Uhhhh.. I do. :hide

I have no idea where he got it from. I only have two neighbors and it did not belong to either of them. :barnie

Free after you gave the Rottie your dh shoe did he become your friend? I'd say you probably made him pretty happy.

So yesterday I learned my lesson 3 times about having no fences and a dog that likes to ,,,, Um explore.

My neighbor was spreading some ungodly smelling manure under his fruit trees. It was a manure tea or sludge or something. And my dog sure did like it. I had to hose him off 3 different times because he just insisted on rolling in it. Serves me right. I guess I should work on a fence.

Pg... Your getting a mastiff?

OFG, I think you handled your neighbor just fine. After all it is not the first time you have had this conversation with him. :idunno
