Happy Friday to all you little piggies in The Good Land. I've already finished my morning chores before the sun started blazing down and I'm doing inside chores until this evening when the sun starts going down. (Laundry, Dishes, Soap Operas, etc.) We having a cold wave this weekend - 80's instead of 90's - I'll take it!

I finally persuaded Hubby to help me make a nipple waterer for the chickens so I don't have the twice a day chore of pouring out their nasty water and putting in clean. They now have a steady supply of clean water. Hubby now thinks it's the greatest thing since shirt pockets and suddenly it seems to be "his" idea. Why can't he just listen to me - he should know after 34 years I know what I'm talking about.

Good day to you all friends.

I know what you mean. I bought some large bell type automatic waters a year ago and they just sat on the carport. Keep asking DH to hang them with a five gallon bucket but he kept putting it off. Then this spring we are rebuilding the pens due to flooding last year and I get him to finally put one up. Even showed him how to do it. They worked great! Now he says how wonderful they are and how we need to put them everywhere. I just smile and say Yes Dear. Sometimes hubbies just need a little push to make them see the light. lol :)

My hens are talking to yours I think. We only got 4 eggs out of 16 hens yesterday. They are not liking this heat. It sent a couple into molt and I am kinda glad because they are so heavily feathered I was afraid they'd die of heat stroke come August when it's really hot.

My girls aren't laying well in this heat either. I even lost one to the heat.

Poor piggies, probably just hot and bored!

My hens are slacking too. 17 hens and maybe a half dozen eggs a day! :duc
Ducks have cut back too, but 2 of 5 are sitting on eggs.
It is finally cooling down here. Hope to see things improve!

ohio, I thought of you today!

Becca and I were on our way to set up the book store at Camp Meeting and on our way, we passed a sign that read:

Day lillies for sale

And sure enough, right after the sign, a huge bed of day lillies and people browsing through them to buy!!!

here's 3 things i hate about civilization:

1. getting there
2. being there
4. making your way home

holy cow. i'm glad to be home!

me, getting off the plane this morning: *runs off the plane, lays prostrate on the ground, kissing The Good Land* i'm home i'm home!! (becomes vaguely aware that someone is running toward me)
security guys (headed my way) hey you! get off the tarmac!
me: huh? *runs off at pig-chasing speed*
security guys: young missy! just get back here!
me: h*ll no! yeeeehaaaaww!!!! *runs at intercept course toward The Big Man, hood slides like Bo Duke across truck, scrambles into cab* Drive baby, drive!

The Big Man: hot 'nuff for ya?
me: aint that right
*speeds off toward Our Little Town*

wow am i glad to be home! that civilization just keeps getting worse. the low point - or most hilarious - was visiting the local farmer market and seeing a PINT of potatoes... for $4!

cost of potatoes in yard = free
cost of potatoes at our farmers market = $1

it was almost as bad as the $21 pie...

and we are never getting cable. ever. i'm now morally bereft and have been totally corrupted. i might never get the horrible images of katy perry (???) prancing around in a cupcake bikini top.

for heavens sakes - you wouldnt see any of these Plain women (amish gals) strapping cinnamon rolls to their brassieres!

say speaking of.. wonder if Mrs Miller has rolls down at the local bulk food place... i'll have to stop in tomorrow.

in the mean time, the Meeps are HUGE and garden grew a tremendous amount. i'm working on the worlds biggest zucchini for the local festival later this summer.

i'll hit the ground running tomorrow but for now The Big Man has ordered me to sit on the couch and eat real chicken soup. that right - REAL chicken soup - not from a can and not created especially for me by a personal chef b/c SOMEONE wont get off their tuckus and make their own food.

so i'm on the couch.

i havent seen the news for a while - whats with this Mel Gibson stuff? wow?
