One more itchy scratchy remedy ... MUD!

None of use here are allergic to poison ivy except for my SIL ... and we laugh at him cause we are mean.

Anyway, the next time you walk through some itchy stuff (poison ivy, stinging nettle, mosquito party, bee sting etc) scoop up a fist full of nice thick mud and slather it thickly on the itchy spot. Leave it to dry and then brush it off before washing up. The mud will absorb a great deal of the poison and pull it out of your skin as it drys. Plus it is handy for quick application as long as you have dirt and spit! ;)

I do always follow my mud treatment with a good washing up with lye soap.

OFG, we are thinking about taking turkeys to the fair next year! I think it would be great to have some heritage breeds there instead of just the ugly old BBWs. Wonder what the city slickers would think of bourbon reds  Probably wouldn't know they are turkeys

What kind of rabbits did the Big Man have? (crossing over from discussion in my journal)

I'm not the only one that swears at the animals too?

Biblio, want to pick me a nice batch of jewelweed, dry it, and mail it to me? I can't find that ANYWHERE around here! I wanted some for my soap making but I've had 0 luck finding any.

Allergic to poison ivy here too. Even if I'm ten feet away and the wind is blowing it in my direction, I get it. :(

That was a fun read. :p

I can walk through freshly cut poison ivy, but if I brush up on poison oak, I break out. I have learned to wash it off ASAP, within a minute or so if possible. Then I wash with fels naptha soap and cool water. Wash all clothing in fels naptha and hot water. The oil can stay in the clothing otherwise and you can get a rash next time you wear the clothing  I apply aloe vera to any rash that still appears. But I have seen people get such a bad reaction, that they needed to see a doctor and get presciption benadryl. Nasty stuff. I don't know if goats eat it. Fortunately we don't have any on our property.

very, very happily. with no ill effects. that's why we love goats around here. well, that and because they eat kudzu.
I have seen kudzu, watched it grow as we were driving by... LOL
