how hilarious! i think the first rule of 4H is no spoiled children! ha or at least thats how it is around here! hard work and discipline for sure.

i dont have any hoots at all for the registration stuff. and we didnt have any problem selling Nibble's babies. i think you could probably charge more for the registered ones, but we got $225 for Nibble's babies (for both together). they were cute, for sure. but there are a lot more folks willing to pay $50 for a kid's pet than $500. (probably)

as far as i can tell there are 2 sides of this fence:

1. full on goat wild must be registered and silly names like: Petunia's Peach Sundae Lightening Rod

2. folks like me that are fine with "pet quality" and give them names like "Gus The Goat"

i think its more about if you are going to breed and/or show. but we gave one of Debbie's babies to the neighbors and they are going to show him and he's totally a mutt. so i dunno Karen probably knows more about the whys and the wherefor's and all that.

me? i dont care as the only thing i'm showin' them goats is my bad attitude if they kick over the dang milk bucket.

peruse around craigslist to get an idea for pricing and whatnot.

sick of peaches? negative..

maybe i'll just make a big ol peach pie seein' as how pie makin' is what a do. ha! i'll send you a pic, Free, for inspiration.

ok i'm gonna go and check on my unregistered goaties. i'll take that back - i think Vita is still registered. but that has to do with how we take her back to the breeder for kidding.

what a gorgeous day!!
:)

Goat question - are any of your poison ivy eaters registered? I'm trying to figure out how seriously to take all this registering stuff. My head is so far into the game right now and I can't slow down :p Anyway, it makes it easier to sell kids right?
I should probably check into the 4-H rules here too before we purchase to make sure all the tattoos and such are right.
There aren't any goat 4-H kids around here. Franklin county fair only had a few goats and the 2 girls I tried to speak to were rather stuck up and unfriendly. :tongue
When trying to learn from a 4-H kid at the show you should ask some really grubby looking 12 year old. Kids at that age seem to be a fountain of knowledge about their animals and still be too young to "have a life" or get stuck up!

:lol:Well, in her defense, the girl I tried to talk to was wearing a tiara and sash with some gobbledegook letters across it. I am not kidding. Guess I forgot to mention that  And she looked waaaay better than her goats, so I think it was all about her.

I can't really get past all the names either. I can barley call my kids by their right names. I do have a farm name picked out already though, if we ever go about that business.

I'm going to try to find some middle ground I think.

ha!

I can barley call my kids by their right names.
yeah i used to be so mad at my mom for cycling thru ALL the kids names (and some of my cousins) when she was yelling for me... now i call the dogs the cats names, occasionally yell the goats name at the dog... and just call my hubby "honey" so i dont yell "hey Little Pansy" at him... that wouldnt go well.... (you know thats the rooster's name, right? HA!)

we usually call all the cats names, give up and say "whoever you are" get out of that!

i think i have finally forgiven my mom for not knowing who i was in a swarm of kids
