I just remembered - as we were diving through the fancy houses, we saw one that had at least a hundred mallards in it's driveway. They came up from the pond to dine on the pretty flowers
i love Tiger's Pent Up Poultry! whoot we can expand to all kinds of birds
sigh.. my little left coast friend.. we got to get your country-fried... its Biscuits & Gravy
as for pork - how can you go wrong! i think maybe you are cooking it too long. there was an old myth that you had to cook it to shoe leather.. but they've backed off on that. i actually like mine a LITTLE BIT rare. i know i'm gonna get worms
but not really. the "cook to kill" is something really low like 135* or something??
if you get a pork shoulder and put it in the pokey pot you cant go wrong.
or just do those pork chops on the grill with sea salt and pepper
or bake that roast at 350* on a bed of potatoes... wait thats too many carbs... on a rack or a bed of onions
that oughta do you up. then all you'll be hearing is "mom can we have more pork!!!??"
javamama - see - poultry love the golf courses! its a natural fit!
Ok, now that I had my good laugh, I gotta see what's holding dinner. I made the bread and the salad, what are these boys waiting for... I think they ordered pizza
I found some sherry in my kitchen behind some of my good oils, I am feeling fine
wow! you know.....sometimes God blesses you in the best (and weirdest) ways.. so lets chalk this one up to "ask and ye shall receive."
i've been moping around at our lack of tomatoes this year. between their bad weather and not being at "full speed ahead" from the sickness (thanks civilization) we just didnt have a good harvest.
i had JUST updated my farm notes saying we didnt have enough tomatoes for this year, when the neighbor called. this is the 4H mom who had to call us earlier in the week for the sad task of putting one of their goats down.
she said she has a 'few things for us' - they had a big family meal earlier and were kid-less for all dinners this week and did we want the leftovers? oh and they had a few tomatoes too.
so i took my bucket and marched over.
oh.
my.
gosh.
oh no no no friend -- she didnt have a few things for us. she had a HEAP of stuff for us. enough food for probably 3 meals, about half a gallon of the best baked beans you've ever had....and a TROLLEY FULL of tomatoes.
i just stood there shell shocked holding my bucket that wasnt even remotely big enough. so she packed me up and i trolley-ed home.
but it didnt end there.
as i was slowly making my way across the old timer's yard (who is between us) he calls out that HE has tomatoes.. did i want them? and he filled my bucket and told me to come up next week because they would have more.
talk about a "net breaking, boat sinking" haul! so now we are richly and abundantly blessed with maters. its just amazing.
Awesome!!!! I hope you get sick of tomatoes, because so many people keep flooding you with them, you deserve it, girl!
A big for a bounty of the red orbs!
I am trying to get enough from our cherry tomatoes, our only producing plants, to make some ketchup. :/ I have enough of the neighbor's 12 to make one more tomato/basil pie, to which I will add our last two baby zukes. YUM! Think I might use feta and some sausage in it, too, for supper. We had peach pie and cheese tonight. Mmmmm.....
