Onward and upward :hugs
I have to get hay soon too. We are going through 2 bales a week now, but I have no idea how much they are really eating  They have been fighting so I have to feed them each a flake, in separate areas. I'm afraid one is going to butt the other in the tummy and hurt the pregnancy.

I keep thinking I'll call the hay guy when the weather gets better  But I really don't want to call during Christmas week so I'll wait.
Perdy is just enormous and has 6 weeks to go. 6 weeks. Wow.

less quality hay is fine in rumens....with those extra tummies they extract more from the less than perfect hay very well. and it keeps the pipes moving...so true

of course no mold etc (you know that lol)

i should warn you all that i started today with a lot of coffee and xmas cookies for breakfast.

sonowi'mtypingreallyfastandicantblinkmyeyes

first - you gotta try these - the molasses ones:
http://ruhlman.com/2010/12/holiday-cookie-challenge-results.html

not too sweet, but very spicy. i used lard (whooot!) and sorghum..and i didnt have to chill the dough a billion times. just once then rolled and baked.

then here in the land of snow and ice, * looks out window * nothing but snow and ice to report.

and. i still havent found the pig heads (dang!)

and. we still have 4 meats to do and they are HUGE. like freaky holy COW big. their time is coming...

and yesterday i had to give Kai another vaccination.. there were a lot of tears. some of them from her. mostly from me. *looks back at puppy* she's fine now. i think i need therapy tho.

and

since i got my snark on (fueled by sugar - see? it IS evil!) i just gotta tell you about our upcoming holiday fun. and you know this includes the MIL...

so about 3 months ago our Good Neighbors invited us to be part of their noon xmas day fun - its great. at least 2 sets of grandparents, sometimes a great-grand, well behaved kids, good food, nice tree, snacks, everyone laughing, kids open presents and thank everyone with authentic joy and hugs and kisses. its nice. we love it. we love them. so of course we are going.

then last sunday the MIL says (in Eeyore voice), "so what are we doing for xmas?"

us: well, we're having xmas lunch with the Good Neighbors.....

then the argument started. no i didnt budge and i'm immune to her sad eyes and weepy tears. i dont have any family within 5 states now so i'm claiming the good time with the neighbors as mine. my hubby didnt budge either.

we could do breakfast? dinner? anytime but xmas mid day.

so we agreed that we'd do xmas eve with the MIL - but only after i blocked her inviting herself to our house. for lots of reasons we arent very Christimas-y this year even tho we tried very hard to strap on our jingle bells and ho ho ho it up. we dont even have a festive holiday shrub. nothing but a now-empty plate of xmas cookies. (*brushes crumbs off shirt*)

it was settled.

until my hubby called her yesterday.

so then she was all 'oh why cant we have xmas day' blah blah blah (pssssst.. because if you wait until the week before to make plans you get what you get). so he didnt budge. so she relented and then it was time to talk about what was going to be for dinner.

she: we'll order pizza
my hubby: (blink blink) not very Christmassy.....
she: its easy
he: ok well.. we like mushrooms and onions and....
she: no we are having pepperoni and thats it. we dont like vegetables.
he: (blink blink) um...

i know all you ladies out there are saying "why not have half and half or order two pizzas?" yeah i know.. thats what i thought too. but apparently this is going to be "Controlling Christmas" and we'll all just play along.

and we're really hoping they arent expecting that perfect xmas gift from us. this year has been tough and we had to fill the oil tank unexpectedly last week.. so we told everyone they are all getting the comforting assurance that we arent freezing to death and we'll think warm thoughts for them - its the gift that keeps on giving!

anyway - my plan is to make that whiskey-bacon-and eggnog drink from SKR8PN's video and swill that all nite. should make for some interesting times.

gosh - come to think of it.. Java you might have to bail ME out... if you get a call from a not-so-local sheriff.. its probably about me.. dont worry tho i'll trade you the neighbors 4H kids for bail money

ho ho? or oh no? could be an interesting nite....

;-)

Well pizza makes a fine Christmas dinner, don't you know? Very traditional American food. I always tell my mom my boys only eat tradtional american food....pizza, spagetti and chili.

Ah well, we can't pick our relatives can we? At least she raised The Big Man for you so she obviously did something right.

I would stop and get a take out pizza on the way loaded with veggies and extra jalapenos just to be a b*tch.

"We know you don't like veggies on your pizza but we find we don't feel well without them. Would you like a taste? It's really good and good for you!"

* slams some more bacon whiskey

"Really, you should try a vegetable now and then. Maybe you wouldn't have such a bad attitude due to nutritional deprivation to your brain!"

* Hick-up!

* its like WZ's reading my every thought.....*

the kicker is that sunday they went on and on about how they were gonna adopt a vegan diet to loose weight - like bill clinton.

and yes we laughed the whole way home....and then fell off the couch laughing when they said that they wouldnt eat veggies on their pizza...

LOLOLOL

Yes, the crystal ball is all warmed up today. I think a cat slept on it :D

Most of a vegetarians I know aren't vegetarian, they are carbotarians. All they eat are carbs. Bread, rice, pasta, potatoes....very little vegetable matter. Heck I did the same thing when I went vegetarian for health reasons and ended up fatter and sicker than ever! :p

Anyway, fulfill your family duty and then have a good hearty laugh with Big Man afterwards. Consider this comedic fodder and go onward and upward :D
